Thanks to Nokia, I was invited to the N9 Blogger event held on 7th September 2011. The media event was in the morning. The blogger event, held in the evening, allows us to have a thorough hands-on on the Nokia N9 with Meego OS. The event was held at Boat Quay Dallas Restaurant & Bar.
The event was stripped of all formality (which I like). There were many familiar faces and thanks to Nokia, we were able to have one N9 to try out for that evening.
Chong shared with us some information about N9 before we start the hands-on
Here are the important information on N9.
As you might already be aware, N9 has no physical main button. Everything is done by swiping. Nokia has done well in this area for N9. And the next slide showed us the 3 important screen on N9.
As this is not our first time to see and touch the N9 for some of us, we were quick to get our hands dirty with them. There were 3 colors of the N9 units. They are Black, Cyan and Magenta.
To go to this screen (shown below). You will need to double tap on the standby screen. Once done, you will see these beautiful wallpapers.
Swipe your finger on the screen and you will come to one of the 3 main screen. Below is the Applications screen.
This is the back of the phone.
To see more on the close ups, click Here. They are taken during CommunicAsia 2011. The Nokia N9 uses MicroSIM card. This is the adapter.
Nokia has made the front facing camera at the bottom (when you are holding on to the phone vertically). This is an unusual position.
On Nokia settings, there is also a function that I wished to highlight. In order to allow simple steps to end a problem, Nokia has incorporated a setting in the phone that when activated, allows you to swipe from top to bottom to close the application.
Here is a close up.
I did a video on this Nokia N9 (I am trying a new way to edit my video, would love to hear your comments).
What is not covered in the video is that the Nokia N9 NFC can be used to “transfer” Angry Birds Levels to another person. This is just one way that you can use NFC in games.
After using the NFC to get the levels.
Nokia has also made accessories for this N9. Here is one of them.
Close up.
As I mentioned earlier, I had covered the specifications during CommunicAsia. So, click the below link to see them.

Overall, I love the design of Nokia N9, with its 3.9-inch Gorilla Glass that reaches almost to the edge, it is unlike any other phone. Too bad, this is going to be the last Meego OS phone from Nokia. There are potential on Meego, actually.
According to Nokia, the effort is not wasted. All the feedback from this phone will be applied or considered to other Nokia phones. I am looking forward to it.
