Friday, 16th September 2016, is a very special day. It is the start of Singapore F1 GP, the birthday of the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and also the launch of the latest Apple iPhone 7 in Singapore. Thanks to Singtel for the invite, I was able to witness how Apple fans remain loyal to the iPhone despite that Apple has removed the 3.5mm jack from the iPhone and the iPhone’s shape and size remains largely the same.
Event
The event was held at MBS (Marina Bay Sands) and seems like it is getting earlier each year. Before 8am, the first 10 customers were identified and ushered to the VIP lounge. Singtel had setup 60 counters with many staffs helping out in the crowd. In my opinion, this is really good. Here is a one-minute video of the event.
Here is Singtel first Apple iPhone 7 customer, Mr Wellson Lee, 38.
Receiving the iPhone 7 from Mr Yuen Kuan Moon and a complimentary one year ReadyRoam service on stage.
Here is a group shot of the first 10 Singtel iPhone 7 customers with Singtel Executives and comperes.
The happy Mr. Wellson meeting the media after the event.
One of the highlights during the event is the announcement of Singtel DataX3. If you remember, Singtel launches DataX2 in March this year. Just half a year later, they introduced DataX3. Customers can now pay a minimum sum (S$9.90/month) to get 3 times the amount of data on their mobile line. I am sure many will be getting this add-on service.
At the event, Singtel has placed many accessories counters for the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
And of course, customers can try out the new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus while waiting for their number to be called. Here is the iPhone 7.
From the bottom, you will notice that the 3.5mm jack has already been taken away.
If you have read the news, you will know that not many people can get their hands on the elusive Jet Black iPhone 7. At the Singtel event, I did not see any Jet Black. Instead, here is the Black version.
iPhone 7 Plus
And here is the iPhone 7 Plus in details. Lets start with the packaging. As usual, Apple’s packaging is always very simple which I believe many other manufacturers are also trying to follow.
Packaging
Accessories in the package
Taking out the iPhone 7 Plus, you can see the EarPod and the charger.
Here is a close look of the EarPod.
And here is the charger. When other manufacturers are already using Fast Charging or increase their charging amperes from 1A to 2.1A to 2.4A (even more for Note7), Apple is still using charger with 1A output.
Included inside the package is the SIM removal pin.
And as Apple mentioned during the iPhone 7 event recently, the 3.5mm to lightning port adapter is included in the package.
iPhone 7 Plus various views
And here are some shots of the iPhone 7 Plus. Check out the front and back of the iPhone 7 Plus (Rose Gold).
The iPhone 7 has no antenna (the white lines) running across the back.
Biggest difference (as compared to iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6s Plus) is the camera. Here is the Dual Camera of the iPhone 7 Plus. One is the wide angle camera and the other is the Telephoto camera (2 x).
Close up of the front facing 7 MPX camera (Note: As I have installed a glass matt protective layer, it seems that there are misalignment as shown in the pictures below. The iPhone 7 front surface is very smooth without the protective layer).
The second biggest differences is the Home Button. It has its own engine built inside and completely feels different from any previous iPhone versions.
As for the rest of the views, they are similar to iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6s Plus except that iPhone 7 does not have the 3.5mm jack.
From the picture below, you can see clearly see the antenna line.
Comparison of iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6 Plus
To show the similarity of the iPhone 7 Plus with iPhone 6 Plus, here are some comparison shots (I have only iPhone 6 Plus with me and therefore unable to make a comparison with iPhone 6s Plus).
Note: iPhone 7 Plus on the left and iPhone 6 Plus on the right.
