Singapore – October 18, 2013 – Samsung Asia Pte Ltd and Popular e-learning Pte Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Popular Holdings Ltd, today announced a partnership to extend complimentary digital art training to primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions in Singapore.

Known as the Samsung Digital Art Studio, the programme is Samsung’s latest initiative to promote the local digital art scene, as well as cultivate greater interest and appreciation for the art form among the youths. Samsung and Popular e-learning aim to teach more than 5,000 students from over 100 primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions by the end of 2014.

Trainers from Popular e-learning, equipped with Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 LTE tablets, will guide students in learning how to create digital art easily with the tablets. The three-hour course will feature hands-on use of the embedded S Pen for sketching, drawing, and other forms of creative expressions, as well as familiarising the students with easy-to-use creation tools such as the S Note, and multitasking features like the Multi Window and Dual View.

The Samsung Digital Art Studio pilot programme with Blangah Rise Primary, Yishun Town Secondary, Si Ling Secondary and Victoria Junior College received highly positive feedback as the participants had the opportunity to learn basic digital art creation skills using the Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 LTE, while being exposed to different perspectives of the art. The open-to-all programme, including teachers, is exploring advance training options for participants who have shown talent and interest.

Art Lim, the principal illustrator for Popular e-Learning said: “The Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 LTE is more than just an entertainment tool. The S Pen allows students to use the tablet just like pen and paper, and provides them with ample opportunity to use it as a tool for creativity, anytime and anywhere.”

“The digital drawing course on the device was a good breakaway from the usual things we do! We were shown the functions of Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1’s S Pen and S Note, and used them to create the drawings. It was interesting and exciting,” said Mr. Yap, teacher from Yishun Town Secondary School.
