Some statistics from Kaspersky on children behavior on porn sites on the Internet. Quite shocking.
Children Access Porn Sites Four Million Times a Day
Kaspersky’s Lab announces shock findings on attempts by children to access internet porn
October 21, 2010 [Singapore] More than four million attempts are made to access porn sites every day – by children. The shocking statistic was released today by Kaspersky Lab – a leading developer of security information systems.
The Pornography category in the parental control system of Kaspersky Lab’s home user products is triggered more than 160,000 times an hour by children attempting to access adult content sites.
This figure was confirmed by data collected worldwide using Kaspersky Security Network Technology.
The prime time for kids to attempt entry to porn sites is in the evening with peak activity occurring at 11.00 pm, according to a graph compiled by the Web Content Analysis Group at Kaspersky’s lab.
According to Mr Jimmy Fong, Channel Sales Director of Kaspersky Lab, Southeast Asia, this is an extremely worrying trend for parents.
“The reality is many kids have access to the internet without parental supervision. Parents are often working or attending to household duties, and are unable to keep an eye on where their children are surfing on the internet.”
“The power of Parental Controls on anti-virus software is that they can control a child’s access to inappropriate material when the parent is unavailable to supervise.”
“And if parents are not sure they need Parental Controls they should remember that Kaspersky Lab’s products and their Parental Control modules stop 160,000 children from accessing pornography every hour of the day,” Mr Fong said.
Number of times Pornography category triggered in Parental Control module
Parental Control modules have been implemented on to Kaspersky PURE and Kaspersky Internet Security 2011.
These allow parents to:
- Restrict the download of inappropriate files from the internet
- Regulate access to specific programs and sites
- Restrict the time when children can access the internet and the computer
- Log their children’s instant messaging and social networking communications on ICQ, MSN and other similar sites.
