Samsung Youth Ambassador JJ Lin Jun Jie runs as Samsung Torchbearer for the singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games
Singapore, 13 August 2010 – Samsung’s Youth Ambassador for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010), JJ Lin Jun Jie, today ran as a Samsung torchbearer for the Singapore 2010 Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame (JYOF).
JJ Lin was appointed Samsung Youth Ambassador for Singapore 2010 and a Samsung torchbearer for the JYOF because of his positive image as a role model among youth in the region and the values he shares with Samsung including passion for life and pursuit for excellence.
“I am really happy to be representing Samsung as the Youth Ambassador at the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame. Through this first-ever Olympic torch relay in Singapore, I hope to be able to rally the youths to witness and celebrate sporting excellence at the Youth Olympic Games,” said JJ Lin.
Other than JJ Lin and Singapore youths, Samsung torchbearers also included globally well-known personalities from all walks of life including Philippine celebrities Efren Peñaflorida JR and Samuel Lloyd Milby and athletes from different parts of the world including para-olympian Ras Adiba Radzi from Malaysia, Maria Gibbons from Palau, Jessica Fox from Australia and Michael Taufa from Tonga.
“Samsung is proud to be a Presenting Partner of the JYOF, and by getting our Youth Ambassador JJ Lin to run with the Olympic flame, we also hope to encourage more youth around the world to take part and tune in to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games,” said Mr Gyehyun Kwon, Head of Worldwide Sports Marketing at Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
In conjunction with the JYOF, Samsung has planned and organised a number of events and activities to further involve and excite people ahead of the Games. A Samsung promotional caravan has been deployed throughout the different legs of the Singapore JYOF, where Samsung cheerleaders motivate torchbearers and spectators by handing out cheer kits including clappers, blow horns, fans, balloon sticks and flags. Samsung has also created a virtual torch relay application on the Samsung Singapore Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SamsungSingapore) that allows users to take part in the JYOF by keeping the flame burning through clocking clicks.
The six-day Torch Relay will culminate at a special event in Marina Bay on August 13 with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew as Guest of Honour. Minister Mentor will mark the completion of the Torch Relay and opening of the Celebration@Marina Bay by lighting the cauldron. In conjunction with the Singapore 2010, Singaporeans and visitors can also take part in the festivities at Celebration@Marina Bay, presented by Samsung. These include concerts and performances by over 60 international and local acts, sports try-outs, street performances such as stilt-walkers, balloon artists, and contortionists.
