Samsung Introduces Gear S3 frontier (LTE) with eSIM

Finally, eSIM is here in Singapore and Samsung Gear S3 frontier (LTE) is the first wearable (Smart Watch) to enjoy this feature. eSIM is actually embedded SIM on your device. You will not need to take out or put in a SIM card on your device. Instead, you just need to download the eSIM profile onto it.

The Samsung Gear S3 frontier (LTE) is available from 14th January 2017 at RRP S$598 at local telecommunication operators Singtel and Starhub.1  Samsung also announces iOS compatibility across the latest devices in its Gear wearables range, which includes the Gear S3, Gear S2 and Gear Fit2. This is really great news as I know some of my friends who is on iOS wanted to try out the Gear S3.

The new variant introduces LTE support on the smartwatch with its embedded SIM (eSIM), through new revolutionary technology from Gemalto. Gemalto’s eSIM and On-Demand Connectivity solution are compliant with GSMA specifications which makes remote provisioning possible for the Gear S3 frontier. Telecommunication operators are now able to leverage on its eSIM to support customers’ subscriptions remotely with convenience via a secure platform. Users can download their respective profiles with ease, thanks to the unprecedented flexibility of the smartwatch which connects to the cellular network, enabling them to stay connected wherever they go, such as making phone calls, receiving messages and accessing their apps, even without their mobile phones.

From 14 January 2017 to 15 February 2017, Samsung will be holding a launch promotion for the Gear S3 frontier (LTE). Customers who purchase a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge during the launch promotion period will be able to enjoy $50 off their purchase of the Gear S3 frontier (LTE) and be entitled to receive a complimentary2 strap worth $68.

iOS Compatibility for Samsung Gear Devices

Users can now download the Samsung Gear S app for the Gear S2 and Gear S3, or the Samsung Gear Fit app for the Gear Fit2 on compatible iOS devices3 from the Apple App Store, and complete the pairing with their respective compatible Samsung wearable devices. With the new compatibility, iOS users will now be able to enjoy the various features and functions4 across the Gear family of devices, such as tracking their fitness by monitoring distance and route travelled, running pace, calories burned and heart rate.

Singtel today announced the availability of the Samsung Gear S3 frontier (LTE) on its 4G LTE network. Embedded with an eSIM, the next generation smart watch boasts standalone 4G LTE connectivity which enables customers to make calls, send texts and surf the internet, independently of a smartphone. Customers on Singtel’s network will enjoy a bonus – Singtel is the only operator outside of US and South Korea to offer 4G ClearVoice or VoLTE on the wearable to support crystal-clear voice calls.

New customers can get connected with Singtel’s SIM Only starter pack which includes 5GB of data (3GB local mobile data and 2GB Singtel Premium WiFi) for just S$20. Once their wearable’s eSIM is activated with a QR code, they can enjoy Singapore’s fastest LTE mobile data speeds and 4G ClearVoice calls on Singtel’s network.
