Nokia officially announced 41 Megapixels Nokia Lumia 1020 (video)

Stephen Elop officially announced the Nokia Lumia 1020 on stage. As you might already know (based on the leaks), it has 41 Megapixels and comes in Yellow, Black and White.

The whole event is about the 41 Megapixels camera which is understandable. I think Nokia has changed the way mobile camera should be built. It actually squeezes a whopping 41 Megapixels into this small device. And they have re-engineered the image stabilizer for such a big sensor. Now they are using ball bearings for image stabilization which they call it the 2nd generation image stabilization.

Here is video of the Nokia Lumia 1020

With the announcement, Nokia also introduces the Nokia Pro Camera app. I really love the app. It has a lot of manual features. And the best part is that it has manual focus. Check out these two videos.

And this.

As you have seen in the video, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is capable of lossless zoom. This can be achieved because of the oversampling technology. I guess it is similar to the Nokia 808 PureView.

And with such a nice camera package, Nokia also added Rich Recording to it. It is able to reproduce good audio quality in challenging conditions. Here is a video of it.

I am sure by now you wanted to know the specs. Here it is.

One of the interesting thing I noted is Instagram. Yes, Instagram on Windows Phone (in a way). In one of the demo on a photography app, the demonstrator can actually have the option to upload the picture to Instagram! I have nothing to confirm but it is shown on the video.

And more interesting apps are coming to Windows Phone 8 that take advantage of the awesome camera.

  • Path on Windows Phone 8 (filters)
  • Flipboard
