Singapore to get Canon PowerShot N from end-April

Yesterday, I attended the Canon event that showcased a number of new products. One of the most interesting products (my opinion) is the Canon PowerShot N. Unlike other cameras, it is very small, has no shutter button and uses a ring to zoom in and out. With its petite size, it has 8x optical which I think is really nice.

The Canon PowerShot N will be available in white and retails at S$399 from end-April. I do see a black version but it seems that Canon Singapore is bringing in the White only.

Some people has asked me about the specs of the camera. I think DPReview did a good job to show the specs.

Explore a Different Way of Capturing Photos with the New PowerShot N

Unleash and share your artistic side with the camera’s Wi-Fi capabilities and exciting Creative Shot mode which produces five different creative photos in a single shot

SINGAPORE, 1 April 2013 – The PowerShot N is set to change the way we capture life’s unexpected moments. The latest compact camera offering from Canon boasts a new unique form factor – palm-sized and an ergonomic quadratic shape – which allows for a firmer grip, so users can explore creative and radical photographic angles in their photos. The new Creative Shot mode, which randomly generates five creative variations of a particular shot, will excite and boost the creativity of avid shutterbugs, street photography enthusiasts and fans of photographic filters. Users can also instantaneously share their photos easily on social media platforms with the camera’s one-touch Wi-Fi button.

“Canon’s commitment to innovation and providing our consumers with exciting technology to capture the world around them presents itself in the form of the new PowerShot N. The camera’s unique design and fun features encourages users to venture beyond the conventional, and to use photography as a medium to express their creativity and individuality like never before,” said Andrew Koh, Senior Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Products Group, Canon Singapore. “The Wi-Fi feature and easy photo transfer to social media platforms also make it a convenient gadget for people to share their lives with their virtual audience.”

Freestyle photography – 6 creative shots with a click of the shutter

The one-of-a-kind PowerShot N is the ultimate accompaniment to artistic shutterbugs who are keen to discover a brand-new dimension of photographic expression. The PowerShot N features a new Creative Shot mode featuring 25 randomised filters unlike any other found in Canon’s range of cameras. Users should prepare themselves to be surprised by the results of their efforts, as the PowerShot N automatically generates five intelligent alternatives of their photo with different crops and processing effects. In other words, for every photo taken, six shots will be available for users to view, select and share with their family and friends.

The Canon PowerShot N incorporates a world’s first dual-ring lens design which includes a zoom ring and a shutter ring that can be pressed from either the top or bottom for capturing of images. This replaces the shutter button and zoom lever controls used in conventional cameras, giving PowerShot N users greater freedom and flexibility when shooting as they are no longer restricted by a fixed way of holding the camera. In addition, the 2.8-inch tilt-up LCD touch-screen panel provides an innovative perspective to framing of images and encourages the use of different camera angles.

Built into the PowerShot N are a DIGIC 5 processor, a highly-sensitive 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, and the new ZoomPlus technology, boosting the 8x optical zoom lens (28-224mm) to up to 16x zoom, making the PowerShot N a versatile companion in all situations. High-speed and low-light photos also remain incredibly sharp due to a high ISO speed of 6,400.

The PowerShot N also comes with the Hybrid Auto mode that automatically records a four-second full HD video prior to the photo being snapped. To counter blurry images, Hybrid Auto mode incorporates Canon’s Smart Auto technology which optimises the exposure for various scenes and situations. Intelligent Stabilizer technologies are also automatically activated to identify and adapt to the appropriate stabilising technique to achieve stable video footage and crisp stills.

Easy connectivity options for convenient sharing

Photo sharing has never been easier with the PowerShot N which features a one-touch Wi-Fi button, enabling users to instantly share and comment on their photographs and videos on popular social media sites such as Facebook and YouTube. The camera is also able to connect with other wireless devices using the smart device’s data connection with the free Canon CameraWindow app (available for both iOS and Android devices).

Sleek, small and designed for portability

Available in white, the sleek PowerShot N weighs about 195g (including battery and memory card and measures a mere 78.6 x 69.3 x 29.2 mm, making it ideal for quick on-the-go shooting. For added convenience, the PowerShot N can also be charged via a bundled USB cable, allowing users to power-up from virtually anywhere, a first amongst Canon’s range of cameras.

The PowerShot N is further equipped with the new Eco Mode which can be activated to control the brightness of the LCD screen and minimise battery consumption. This mode enables 30 percent more shots than in normal mode by dimming the LCD after a few seconds of inactivity.

Pricing and availability

The PowerShot N, retailing at SGD$399, will be available by the end of April at authorised Canon dealers.
