Thanks to LG, I am able to get the LG Optimus 4X HD review set before its launch on 28th July 2012 (This coming Saturday). This is the first part of my review which focus on the unboxing (or rather the content in the box) and the thoughts based on the first look of this device.
The above image is the packaging for LG Optimus 4X HD. The box is long and very well built. Notice that the seal is broken. Well, I was invited to LG Live at MBS for a short training session on this device. Therefore, the seal is already broken and battery with my SIM card installed.
Here is a view with the device in the box.

First Look
Here is LG Optimus 4X HD with the screen powered up. BTW, it has 550 NITs of brightness (which is actually very bright for a phone).
Here is the back view with the cover taken out.
The reason for taking out the cover is that I wanted to show you the NFC that is on the back cover. From the outside, it looks normal.
However, when you turn inside, you can see a warning sign and a patch. That is the NFC.
Here is a close up of the NFC warning.
Here is a close up on the 8-MegaPixels F/2.4 camera lens.
By now, you should have noticed that Optimus 4X HD is using a normal SIM card (means NOT MicroSIM), and it has a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. The internal storage is 16GB and 1 GB of RAM.
Here are the views from different sides.
Top
The power on and the 3.5mm jack port.
Bottom
Just a single MicroUSB port.
Left side
Note that there are rocker switch for the volume
Right side
Notice that the Optimus 4X HD has some pattern running along it. According the information provided, it is supposed to be like the ring of a luxury watch (prism like). For me, it helps me get a better grip of the phone. Here is a close up of it.
And this is the battery. The LG Optimus 4X HD has a very high capacity battery of 2,150mAh.
I think this is necessary as it has a Quad Core Processor and a large IPS screen of 4.7-inch. From LG, the screen is actually consuming lesser power than those AMOLED screen. More about that in another blog post.
Here are the content in the box.

Charger
I think this is one of the smallest charger I have seen. I really do not mind bringing it everywhere I go.
The other side of the charger.
The ratings on the charger. Output is 5V 1.2A.
I did not want to bore you with some standard accessories. So, I did not take pictures of the MicroUSB data cable for charging and data transfer and also I did not take pictures of the earpiece (In-ear) that can be used as a hands-free set.
One of the interesting thing I found in the box is some stickers. They are not ordinary stickers. They are actually NFC tags. As mentioned earlier, the LG Optimus 4X HD has NFC receiver on the back cover. These tags are supposed to help you switch between mode with the NFC.
Inside this package, there are two tags. One is to activate the Car Mode and the other is to activate the Office Mode. Just bring this tag near the back of the phone (with NFC on) and it will do the switching once it communicated with the NFC receiver. Super easy.
Limited Edition Accessories Pack
Now, here is the MOST IMPORTANT part of this blog post. The first 3,000 2000 people to buy the LG Optimus 4X HD (Telcos or without line) will get a Limited Edition Accessories Pack.
Inside this Accessories Pack, you can find a premium leather casing, a Stylus pen and A.C. Ryan power pack (5,200mAh) that can act as a laser pointer and a light source.

On top of that, I heard from the LG people, everyone will get 50GB of cloud storage from BOX if you purchase the device. The LG Optimus 4X HD will be retailing at RRP S$738 without line. It comes in White and Black.

And as you know, this Optimus 4X HD comes with QuickMemo. If you want to learn more about it (and win some prizes), you can check this post out.
Summary
The LG Optimus 4X HD reminds me of the LG PRADA phone or the previous Optimus Black. According to LG, it is a succession of the PRADA phone design. This is the first LG Smartphone with Quad Core processor. LG has come a long way from their first Android phone, Optimus One, a few years ago. I have seen vast improvement in terms of design, specs and functions.
Currently, I can say that with the specs, this Optimus 4X HD can pit against the nearest Quad Core competitors. There are actually not many. As I have yet to fully “play” with this phone, I will leave my judgement on it later.
If you intent to check out this phone or from the competitors, here are a few features that you can take note. The LG Optimus 4X HD has: NFC, 4.7-inch IPS screen (Gorilla Glass), Big Capacity Battery (2,150mAh), Thin (8.9mm), zero lag shutter, bright lens (F/2.4) and very light weight.
Another information. The phone is currently running on ICS 4.0.3.
That is it. Hope that I did not bore you out. I will write another post after I tried out more features/functions o f it.
