Finally, Canon has announced a new comer in their G-series. Ever since G12, I have heard people asking for the next model. Now, it is clear that it will be the G1 X. However, I am disappointed at the specs though.
Here is a shot of the top of G1 X
Here is a short list of Specs on G1 X.
- 14MP 1.5″ CMOS sensor (18.7 x 14mm)
- 28-112mm F2.8-5.8 lens
- Optical viewfinder
- ISO 100-12,800
- 3.0″, 920,000 dot swivelling LCD
- Extensive manual control
- 14-bit Raw shooting
- 4.5fps continuous shooting (up to 6 frames)
- 6.8Wh NB-10L battery rated at 250 shots (CIPA standard)
Before you want to replace your G12, do note that G1 X is much bigger when the lens is retracted.
Here is a short hands on video from Engadget.
Ok, now let me tell you what I don’t like. It doesn’t have the low light feature of camera like Powershot S100. It has the lowest aperture at F2.8. I must say that it does make a difference between F2.0 and F2.8. I also wonder if G1 X has the ability to auto-focus while recording video.
As for the pricing, at US$800 (not official), it might be a bit steep and people will be swaying towards the Micro Four Third or those small cameras with interchangeable lenses (IMO).
