Yahoo! APAC Overall Beauty Related Search Trend Results

Online users across APAC are fascinated about cosmetic surgeries
Most popular keywords include “Fillers injection” and “Botox”

Holistic care for face, breast and body tops the list of most searched beauty related keywords in Southeast Asia

21/02/2011, Singapore – In order to have a fresh start on the New Year, consumers in APAC are looking for ways to beautify their appearance. Yahoo! today announced its overall beauty related search trends in the APAC region, including Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, revealing the latest trend for this year among online users. The overall APAC results show that as technology progresses, cosmetic surgeries are no longer thought to be as pricy and secretive as before. Microsurgeries such as “Hyaluronic acid fillers injection” and “Botox” are propagated as lunch-break beauty treatments and have become surprisingly popular in APAC, making both the most popular search keywords across APAC.

Among Southeast Asian users, facial care tops the list with “acne solutions” as the most searched beauty related keyword in 2010, followed by “breast care” and “diet”. There seems to be a remarkable spike in the number of searches related to facial care as compared to last year reflecting the growing importance associated to looks, especially the face. Furthermore, unlike some countries in APAC that focus more on cosmetic surgeries, Southeast Asia has a more balanced approach towards beauty with an interest in “diet” and “weight control”.

Besides the common trend of cosmetic surgeries getting popular in APAC, cultural differences are found among the countries from their individual beauty related search trend results. Even though users in Korea, Hong Kong and countries in Southeast Asia emphasize greatly on body shaping, solution preferences vary: Hong Kong users prefer natural methods with “Yoga” topping the search keyword result; In Korea, users tend to seek efficient methods where “liposuction” ranked as the No.1 search keyword.

Furthermore, specific focus of interests also varies from country to country: As all Korean celebrities are seen with perfect oval faces, Koreans seem to have a desire for that perfect face with “orthognathic surgery” as the most popular trend. Hong Kong, as one of Asia’s financial center, with its bustling and fast-paced living and high pressure, trends show “hair loss” as a common problem there and thus the focus for hair loss remedies. Singapore and the other Southeast Asian countries seemed more interested about acne solutions and breast care. Also, “acne solution” is something unique that was found across Southeast Asia as compared to the other top beauty-related keywords revealed in the APAC region.

Zul Rejab, Editorial Manager, Search Content Analysis, indicates, “Southeast Asia’s top online search results reflect higher interest for body and facial care in comparison to its regional counterparts who opted more for cosmetic surgery. It is also interesting to observe, a decrease in “botox” related queries and an increase in “weight control” solutions in our region.”
