Sony Fall 2009 Launch Event Coverage, Introducing VAIO X, CW, NW, L Series

This is way overdue. The event was last Thursday (8th October 2009) held at a 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road. It was an old shophouse or Museum but it was nicely done. The event was an introduction to the newest range of VAIO. We saw the infamous VAIO X at 655 gram, L series , CW and NW series.

The event started by Sony Singapore management giving a welcome speech.

Following on, we were given a brief history of VAIO and also an introduction of Windows 7 that will integrate Sony products with Microsoft OS.

The VAIO X was finally revealed. Amazingly thin and light (based on how it was handled 🙂 )

Product Manager for VAIO X came all the way from Japan to let us understand more on how this X was developed. Quite amazing, I must say.

Although it has a 2GHz speed, it is still using an Atom Processor, Z550.

One of the interesting fact about the VAIO X is that it is using a single aluminum plate for the keyboard.

And of course, Sony always accessorized its products. The Sony VAIO X is no exception.

Next, Ms Janice Yang provided an overview of Sony Media Gallery and the rest of the VAIO range. The Sony Media Gallery goes very well with Windows 7. It has touch capability that you can drag and drop pictures or videos. You can also collage them together in a few steps. As for the other VAIO series, they range from Desktop replacement, netbook to all in one desktop solution.

Sony also invited Microsoft to talk more about their latest OS, Windows 7.

Windows 7 is supposed to integrate work, play and most importantly, the ease of usage.

A simple network over WiFi router using Sony PS3 was demonstrated. It is very easily done. Just a generated password and that is all it needs to connect the different units together to share and play files.

The presentation ended and we were ushered to have some hands on on those products. Below is a demonstration of Multi touch on the L series which is a All in One VAIO.

At the back, you can see a mobile modem connected on a USB port.

There is no HDMI output. Here is the connection by the side.

I proceeded to the VAIO X. Talking about how light it is does not do any justice. The moment I held it, I was thinking how unreal it is to have an 11.1-inch laptop in my hand and it feels like nothing (OK, 655 gram) with battery included.

Finally, before we left, we were treated to a nice buffet and were given a goodie bag. In it, we have an 800dpi Laser Bluetooth mouse and bottle of Sony VAIO sweets 🙂 .

That is it!
