Saw this in one of the Microsoft newsletter. Thought that it is cool to share with everyone. Introduction Microsoft Tag. A unique Tag that you can made and link it to anything. It can be a website, a text note, a vCard or a dialer.
Think of it as another version of QR code (created by the Japanese). More information after the break.
First of all, you have to use Microsoft Live ID to login to Microsoft Tag. From there, you can download a CAB software to your phone. Install it and that is it, you have Microsoft Tag.

To create your own tag, you need to login to Microsoft Tag and Press Create Tag. It is very simple.
From Microsoft Tag website, it states that it is using a new technology (invented by Microsoft) called High Capacity Color Barcodes (HCCBs). With this technology, it can use fixed focus camera (without autofocus) to capture the information. Also, as compared to QR code and etc, it uses a small footprint to decode the information.

So, what phones can use Microsoft Tag? From Microsoft,
Windows Mobile, J2ME, iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian S60 and it must have a camera and Internet Access.
Just a word of caution. The software is very intitutive. That means, you just need to shift the camera to a Microsoft Tag and it will automatically detect it and send you the information. If the information is a website, it will go direct to the website and if you are not on WiFi, be prepared to pay for the data cost.
