Review of the Verbatim Vx560 SSD and 8-in-1 Hub

When it comes to the brand Verbatim, I always remembered it as the brand that sells diskettes and CD ROMs in the 90s. Recently, they contacted me if I am interested to review two of their products, the Vx560 SSD and the 8-in-1 Type-C Hub or not. Of course, I said yes.

I did a video review recently. You can take a look below.

Read on for the blog review. First of all, thanks to Verbatim for reaching out to let me test these products. In fact, I like them so much that I brought them to my cruise (I am writing this from the cruise ship). There are many other accessories from Verbatim. Check them out HERE.

Verbatim Vx560 External SSD

The review unit comes in 512GB of storage. My first impression of the Vx560 external SSD is that it is very compact and well built.

Here is the front view.

And here is the back view.

It connects via a USB-C Port. A USB-A to USB-C cable is provided.

Here are the specs: –

If you want to see how well it performs, check out the video. Overall, I am pleased with the product for its simplicity and built. And the fact that it comes with a maximum of 1TB of storage is something that I think will entice customers to buy. I do hope that they can increase it up to 2TB or more at a reasonable price range.

8-in1 Type-C Hub

The next product is the Verbatim 8-in-1 Type-C Hub. As the name implies, it connects via a Type-C cable.

Here are some features of the product.

Features:

Type-C Power Delivery supports PD charging up to 100W* for your PD-enabled devices, when paired with PD charger & cable

  • This 8 in 1 Type-C hub is an excellent extension adaptor ideal for Apple MacBook series, iPad Pro and other Type-C devices.

Supports audio/video and Ethernet connectivity

  • Supporting audio/video connectivity through the 4K HDMI, VGA, and AUX ports. Ethernet connectivity is supported through the RJ45 port.

Easy Data transfer

  • Type-C port, dual USB 3.0 ports and the SD card reader allow you to transfer data conveniently from your SD card and USB-interfaced data storage devices.

Listen to music

  • With a 3.5mm headphone jack, you can easily plug in headphones or a speaker and listen to your music while you work. This jack supports up to 16 bit, 48 kHz sound output.

It is rare to see that a product still provides the VGA port and the LAN port and still maintains a slim chassis.

Nowadays, modern laptops might not come with a 3.5mm jack port. If you need to connect a pair of 3.5mm jack headphones to listen in, you can do so now with the Verbatim 8-in-1 Type-C Hub.

Specifications:

  • Compatible with Type-C devices, supports PD charging up to 100W* and data transfer up to 5Gbps
  • Extension adapter for connecting multiple devices/accessories, including mice, portable HDD, USB, SD card, monitor, etc
  • 2 x USB 3.0 ports – up to 5Gbps transfer speed
  • HDMI interface – up to 4K/30Hz output
  • VGA port – up to 2K/60Hz output

* 15W deducted for other ports. Compatible PD charger and cable are needed (not included with the hub)

Overall, a nice product to have especially when you go traveling. One of my favorite features is that it can be connected in series to your laptop PD charger and is still able to charge your laptop up to 100W.

Summary

For both products, there are a number of competitors offering similar products. In terms of pricing, it is not the cheapest. Looking at the history of the brand and its strength in making computer peripherals and storage solutions, this might be a brand you can trust.
