Review: Philips Wet and Dry Shaver Series 5000 (S5572/10)

It has been a while since I used an electric shaver. Thanks to Philips, I am able to review their latest Philips Shaver Series 5000. There are 2 different packages for this series. One comes with the SmartClean System and the mustache and sideburn trimming accessory (S5572/10) and the other comes with just the Nose and Ear Hair trimming accessory (S5554/44).

For this review, I am using the Philips Shaver Series 5000 with the SmartClean System and mustache and side-burn trimming accessory (S5572/10).

What’s in the Box

Philips Shaver Series 5000

Here is a close-up. The T+ sign is actually a booster mode (Turbo+) that will add 20% power to the shaver.

The shaver comes with a cover. It is good if you need to pack it for traveling.

Here is the shaver with the cover attached.

These are the accessories provided.

SmartClean System

The SmartClean System is quite bulky. It acts as a charger and a cleaning docking for your shaver.

This is the SmartClean with the shaver inserted.

Along with the liquid (from the cleaning cartridge), you can safely recharge your shaver and at the same time, give it a thorough clean with lubrication.

Features

MultiPrecision Blade System with 5-direction Flex Heads

One of the features of this shaver is the blade. It has a MultiPrecision Blade System with 5-direction Flex Heads. I really think that it is really flexible and could cover almost every angle of the face.

Here is a close up of one of the shaving head.

And if you know, a shaver operates on one motor. The Series 5000 is powered by one motor that is connected to the shaving accessory. You can easily unplug the shaver head and replaced it with the accessory using the SmartClick technology.

Here is the back of the shaver head after unplugged from the shaver.

As the Philips Shaver Series 5000 is IPX7 approved, you can rinse it with water after usage by simply unclipping the heads’ cover.

Here is the shaver with the heads’ cover opened.

Battery Indicator

Another feature that I like is the battery indicator. It has 3 levels and based on Philips, a full charge can last about 50 minutes (equivalent to 17 shaves according to them).

Safety and Charging it

The shaver cannot be operated if it is corded (means plugged into a power source). I think that this is an important feature.

And the quick 1-hour charge for 50 minutes of shaving is also a nice touch.

Usage Experience

Highlights

The Philips Shaver Series 5000 is very easy to use. With its flexible head system, I have no trouble reaching every part of the face with facial hair.

I am not a beard person but I can imagine the ease to use it daily for those with hairy facial. Together with the SmartClean, the hassle of cleaning it is done automatically.

The shaver is IPX7 ready. I find it very convenient to rinse it under the tap. With SmartClick, I think I can trim my sideburn without going to my stylist.

Lowlights

The SmartClean is bulky and I do not have a plug for it in my toilet. So, it becomes inconvenient. As mentioned, it has MultiPrecision Blade System with 5-direction Flex Heads but if you really compare it with a razor, the latter will definitely provides a closer shave.

PHILIPS LAUNCHES NEW SHAVER SERIES 5000 OFFERING A TURBO-CHARGED UPGRADE FOR TIME-STRAPPED, PRACTICAL MEN

For men who like to add speed to their morning routine, the Shaver Series 5000 offers a faster shave with features designed to maximize comfort and minimize cuts and irritation

SINGAPORE – Philips, the world’s number one electric shaving brand introduces two new and upgraded shavers within its existing Shaver Series 5000 portfolio, specifically designed to cater to time-strapped, practical men.

Featuring Philips’ patented rotary shaving technology, the Shaver Series 5000 (S5550/44 and S5572/10) boasts a highly anticipated turbo-charged line up of upgraded features including a Turbo+ mode offering a 20 per cent extra power boost, one-hour charge time and more than 50 minutes of cordless shaving, wet or dry.

“The latest Shaver Series 5000 matches Philips’ premium shaving technology with a price-point that will appeal to millennial men looking to upgrade from manual to electric shavers,” said Ms. Charlene Wong, Marketing Manager, Personal Health, Philips Singapore. “Featuring the latest innovation from Philips, the Turbo+ mode that provides for 20% more power, men can now save precious minutes in their morning routine with added power to blaze through dense areas around the neck and chin, providing for a clean and efficient shave. Coupled with the Turbo+ mode, the proprietary rotary shaving technology synonymous with Philips shavers adds precision and comfort to the gentleman’s shaving routine,” she added.

BRING SPEED TO YOUR MORNING ROUTINE WITH TURBO+ MODE

Thanks to the brand new multi-precision blades with hair guidance system, 5 directional flex heads and Turbo+ mode, the Philips Shaver series 5000 is poised to set a new benchmark in performance within the electric shaving category.

Using Philips proprietary rotary shaving technology that is designed to follow the contours of the face, the S5000 shaver series offers the closest shave possible for ultimate flexibility and convenience.

“Hair on the face can grow in different direction and densities. Philips rotary shavers with their small circular movements on the face, are a natural solution as they have the capability to capture hair growing in all different directions,” added Ms. Wong.

Each of the three 5-direction rotary flex heads on the Philips Shaver Series 5000 have independent movements, gliding close to your skin for a thorough shave even in tricky areas along the neck and jawline.

The MultiPrecision Blade System is also able to raise and cut all hair and remaining stubble with the aid of a new hair guidance system for a shave that’s as fast as it is close. The hair guidance system has the ability to raise flat lying hair and guide them to the slots, where these hair can easily be captured and cut. The Blade System also features rounded head profiles that glide smoothly across skin ensuring added protection to maximize comfort and minimize nicks, cuts and irritation.

VERSATILE ONE-STOP SOLUTION FOR END-TO-END GROOMING

Minimize time spent on morning routines by shaving while you shower! The shaver’s Aquatec Wet & Dry sealoffer uses the option of a quick yet comfortable dry or wet shave – with gel or foam – or even under the shower. The 50-minute running time allows you to go more than a week without charging while shaving every day, reducing waiting time while charging.

With upgraded technology offered in the Shaver Series 5000, Philips retains the one touch open function that allows for easy cleaning.

The Shaver Series 5000 also brings versatility to the product with the SmartClickattachment system. SmartClick allows consumers to get more out of their shaver with added functionalities such as trimming, styling and nose trimming. The skin-friendly SmartClick Precision Trimmer available with both the S5550/44 and S5572/10 models allows men to get fine precision, whether it be trimming their beard, side burns or neck hair.

The SmartClick Nose Trimmer, available on the S5554/44 features the patented tube technology and ensures thorough and safe trimming of nose and ear hair.

The SmartClean system available with the S5572/10 model lubricates and charges your shaver while you prepare for the day, ensuring that it performs at its best every day.
