In 16 days, somewhere in London, UK, Huawei will reveal the Huawei Mate 20 Series. Apart from the official news that it will be called Mate 20 Series and it will have the latest Kirin 980 chipset, what else do we know or expect about them (Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, I presume)?
There are a lot of leaks/rumors and of course, none of them are verified by Huawei. So, as usual, these are just speculation based on “evidence” in the field. Nothing concrete, nothing verified. Let’s go!
Believe it or not, the following are slides assumed to be coming from Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro presentation.
This is NOT something new from Huawei. They already have it on the PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate RS. So, if Mate 20 Series has it, I am not surprised.
I think this is something like Google Lens. If it is real and to compete with Google Lens, it will be difficult.
HiVision will be in Huawei’s EMUI 9.0.
3D Face Unlock
Face unlock feature is nothing new on Huawei. However, based on the slide, it seems to be an improved version and able to support payment systems (Alipay and WeChat, according to the icons on the slide).
I actually like how fast the Huawei phones can unlock using face unlock. However, a recent update on the OS seems to “slow” it down. Maybe, it is due to added security and accuracy.
Bone Voice ID
This is something new and interesting if it exists. Using voice to unlock the phone with high accuracy. The name is terrible and I suspect it might be a plain translation from Chinese to English. And based on the below diagram, you might need a Huawei’s earpiece to do it.
This is something I would love to have. Currently, Huawei is using a wired Easy Projection to emulate an almost desktop-like experience on a big screen. It is already very convenient and good. With Wireless Easy Projection, itis going to be better!
Not sure this is something to look forward to. I hope this is not true. Why re-invent something if it ain’t broken? However, I do love a card slot to expand the memory 🙂 .
These are consolidated information/leaks/rumors on the hardware of the Mate 20 Series.

Here is a “leaked” picture of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. There are other color variations.
On some site, it showed an XDA rendered pic of the Mate 20. It has a teardrop notch design.
And to re-enforce this design, there is a leak on the front panel (not rendered).
Apart from the handset leaks, there is one more leak which I am also very interested – Huawei Freebuds 2 Pro (Maybe that is what it will be called).
This is supposedly version 2 of the Huawei Freebuds. The design is a rip-off from Apple AirPod. It comes with wireless charging. And check this out. If the rumors are true, the new Huawei Mate 20 Pro can even become a wireless pad to charge the Freebuds.
That is all for now. I have never expected myself to be so excited over a phone launch from a Chinese company. This feeling is like when Apple launches iPhones when Steve Jobs was around. Looking forward to seeing the real Huawei Mate 20 Series.
