Finally, I can say this officially. Huawei launches the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro today. I have the chance to take a closer look at them prior the launch. As you may know, the Huawei Mate 10 series is the highly anticipated series from Huawei. With months of teasing, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro is finally official.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is using the latest Huawei Kirin 970 (more info about the chip HERE). According to Huawei, the Kirin 970 CPU is 20% better and GPU is 50% better than Kirin 960.
However, the highlight of Kirin 970 is the NPU (Neural Processing Unit). It has 50x better energy efficiency and 25x better in terms of performance. This is the first time Huawei uses this new technology in its chip.
From the image above, screen grab from the Kirin 970 launch recently, the Kirin 970 can process images very fast. To put in perspective, here are some comparison data:-
- Kirin 970: 2005 images per min
- iPhone 8 Plus: 889 images per min
- iPhone 7 Plus: 487 images per min
- Samsung Galaxy S8: 95 images per min
Recently, I shared a video to show the test conducted. You can check it out HERE.
Huawei Mate 10 Series
Some features of Huawei Mate 10 series.
Battery: 4,000mAh battery with SuperCharge technology.
Connectivity: World first 1.2 Gbps Cat18 (More info: 4×4 MIMO + 256 QAM + 3CC cA = 1.2Gbps)

As mentioned, there is AI in the smartphone, especially through the camera. It has machine learned over 100 million images and can provide precise real-time object recognition. One of the cool features is that it can adjust the settings intelligently to suit the situation. According to Huawei, this kind of intelligence is based on how a photographer would adjust the settings on a camera to take the best shot.
UI: EMUI 8.0 and Android 8.0
Easy Projection: This, in my opinion, is a cool feature. It is not something new but Huawei makes it easier. You can use the phone in desktop mode (i.e. like a tablet) by plugging in a cable. There is no external accessory needed.
The best part of it is that once plugged in, the smartphone and the projected screen can work independently.
You can continue to play a game on the smartphone and the projected screen will not show.
We were shown a demo on it. Personally, I have not tried it before.
Easy Talk: This is something not so evident unless you compare it with other phones. Huawei has managed to ensure that the phone knows if it is in a quiet or noisy environment and adjusts its volume accordingly.
With the AI, you might think that it is just restricted to Huawei apps. Thankfully, Huawei makes sure that 3rd party app can enjoy the AI too (via AI SDK)
We were shown a demo on an AI accelerated translator (actually it is Microsoft Translator which Huawei has been working with). It is able to translate without an Internet connection.
Design: It uses Multi-Axis Curved Design with Glass material. In layman term, it is nice to hold it in your hand.
For the Mate series, it maintains the signature strip at the back.
The Mate 10 series is now IP67 with FullView Display. No notches or anything to irritate us.
