Reports are coming in that the new Apple iPhone 5 is prone to scratch on the back aluminum panel (especially the black model). Do you have such problem?
Pocketnow mentioned that someone actually got an interesting response from Apple Philip Schiller about the scratches.
When apprised of the situation and asked if Apple has any plans to fix the phone’s susceptibility to damage, Schiller responded, “any aluminum product may scratch or chip with use, exposing its natural silver color. That is normal.”
So, agree or not? Anyway, it is kind of expected since it is aluminum, unless it is specially coated. In my opinion, the Apple logo on the back is also prone to scratches.
Actually, I am quite surprise if this (scratches on the back) is true. I remembered reading an article about Steve Jobs on the first generation iPhone. He is super unhappy over the scratches on the iPhone when he put it inside the pocket. Of course at that time, he is talking about the glass screen. Read the story here.
In 2007, a little over a month before the iPhone was scheduled to appear in stores, Mr. Jobs beckoned a handful of lieutenants into an office. For weeks, he had been carrying a prototype of the device in his pocket.
Mr. Jobs angrily held up his iPhone, angling it so everyone could see the dozens of tiny scratches marring its plastic screen, according to someone who attended the meeting. He then pulled his keys from his jeans.
People will carry this phone in their pocket, he said. People also carry their keys in their pocket. “I won’t sell a product that gets scratched,” he said tensely. The only solution was using unscratchable glass instead. “I want a glass screen, and I want it perfect in six weeks.”
