Campaign to coincide with Singapore National Day

SINGAPORE, July 15, 2011 – Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:  YHOO), the premier digital media company announced the launch of Singapore 9 – the first such campaign for the company that will recognize the valuable contributions of nine distinguished Singaporeans in various fields: Politics, Business, Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Media, Youth, Innovators and NGOs.

Inspired by and in reference to August 9, Singapore’s National Day, the campaign is aimed at nurturing the pride of Singaporeans and fellow residents by acknowledging the tireless service each of the leaders in the respective categories has extended to the country over the last year.

The campaign comprises 45 nominees in nine categories; the winners of which will be selected through online polls. The poll site located on www.singapore9.com.sg is open for voting from July 8 until August 5, for users to select their favorite individuals to lead the category.

The online campaign will be launched in phases with three categories including Politics, Economy and Sports launched in the first week, from 8-14 July; Media, Entertainment  and NGOs in the second week from 15-21 July and; Arts, Innovators and Young Faces in the third week from 22-28 July.

According to Alan Soon, Managing Editor of Yahoo! Southeast Asia, “Singapore 9 stems from the massive sea change we saw in the wake of this year’s election campaign with questions surrounding what it truly means to be Singaporean. As the number one online news media in Singapore, we felt we had both the obligation and honor to support our community in recognizing the nation’s best.”

Singapore 9 will be hosted on Yahoo!’s recently rebuilt news platform which has been developed to allow publishers and consumers to better ingest, manage and discover Yahoo! content and make it more personally relevant to individual users wherever they are and whatever their interests.

With more than 170 million unique visitors each month worldwide, Yahoo! News is the number one global news destination on the web, ahead of the likes of The New York Times or CNN.

Yahoo! News is a trusted source for news and perspectives that are clear and personally relevant to users. It is the place people go to get all the news they care about for free – from breaking coverage and a broad spectrum of expert analysis to local developments and important international stories.
