Want to save some trees? Go for digital newspapers! Thanks to Newspaper Direct, I am able to try out their PressReader App on iPad. In fact, they are available on Android, Windows 7 too! And there are more than 1,800 newspaper to choose from. For a start, you are given 7 issues free.

In the same format as with other magazine apps, this PressReader app allows you to select the Newspaper you wanted and it will deliver to your Library (as shown above).

As mentioned earlier, it has more than 1,800 newspaper in many countries.

You have the choice to choose by Country or by Languages. Once you choose, for example, a country, you can select the various newspaper from that country.

Once you downloaded the newspaper, you can view it in vertical or horizontal mode.

You can browse the newspaper by flipping the pages by gesture or by calling out the page layouts (as shown below).

You can print screen the page or select a printer to print out the content. For some papers, you can select the news and a new window will appear. On this window, you can change the font size or let it read the news to you (audio).

You can also email to your friends or hook up with the popular social networks.

On their website version, I choose Singapore as the country and I was quite surprised to see other newspapers on it.

As you can see, there are Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Business Times. However, when I try to download them, it mentions that the publisher did not enable viewing in Singapore!?

Our system has determined that the computer network you are using is located in or routed through Singapore.

As per publisher request The Straits Times is not available for viewing in your area.

Anyway, it seems that previously, this was possible and was removed recently (based on my research). But I guess I may have the answer.

Summary

I feel that if you are one that feeds on Global news, you single app may be what you need to read the news. The pricing is quite competitive.

If you want to download it as a single issue, it will cost you US$0.99. You can also subscribe on monthly basis at US$29.95.
