Scoville, The New Way to Utilize Foursquare?

Just got an private invite to Scoville. I have totally no idea what it is. However, after some reading on their website, I realized that it is riding on your Foursquare check-ins to create a more “sensible” list of places that you like.

At this moment, Scoville is on private Beta. But I guess it is easy to get invites. If a person (like myself) is invited to the private Beta, all he/she has to do is to invite other friends to the Scoville and slowly, more of your friends might join in.

So, what’s Scoville? I tried to find the answer but it seems to address indirectly to #toptuesday. This is actually one of the features of Scoville. If you like some places, you can select them and send out a Tweet on Tuesday to inform other people. And this process is automated.

It means you can select them and let Scoville do the tweet on Tuesday. There is a counter to inform you when is the “dateline”

Here is an excerpt from Scoville on #toptuesday

* What is #toptuesday *

Scoville started with a simple idea. Every Tuesday we’d share with our friends the best places we’d been to in the past week. Only awesome places had to be shared. And that’s how every Tuesday we’d get a list of awesome places from our friends and plan to visit some of them in the coming days or over the week-end.

We’re building the most awesome discovery platform. Every Tuesday we’ll feed you with awesome places worth checking out, with personalized recommendations based on the places you’ve loved and those your friends have recently loved.

I did not really invite a lot of my friends on Foursquare. I do not know if they will think that it is a spam from me or not. Anyway, if you are still reading this and if you are interested, give me a tweet or make a comment below, I will add you in. Deal?

There is something that you should also know about Scoville. That is the LikeBox.

What’s a Likebox?

Likeboxes give context to your check-ins by allowing you to group your favorite places under a specific theme such as “Best Sushi Restaurants” or “Best Art Museums”.

We’ll start by suggesting Likeboxes to you based on your check-ins and your friends’ activity. Soon you’ll be able to create any Likeboxes you can think of.

We combine all these likeboxes to create a “Best of the Box” to help you discover great places.

And one more thing about Scoville is that you can define your city. If you are in Singapore, it will start with Singapore Village. I do not really know what to expect. My LikeBox is empty!

I think LikeBox is a good idea. Nowadays, I see many people check in to Foursquare but did not provide any information (tips/pics) on that place. If there is a LikeBox that house all the similar “likes” in a box, why not. It might do somebody a favor by checking out the LikeBox for ideas.

At this moment, it seems to be web-based to access LikeBox. So, it will work if people bother to use this LikeBox function or #toptuesday for recommendation. Anyway, it is still in private beta. So, that is about all I can comment on Scoville. If you have some time, join me inside.
