Singapore launches its own e-reader. To many, it is a little too late. There are so many e-reader nowadays. However, if you read the details, this KeyReader from iCell has an edge over the rest.
Most (if not all) e-readers will need you to pay in order to download the book. However, iCell’s KeyReader has an advantage. It will be able to access well over 900,000 of digital books in the collection of the National Library Board (NLB) for free. However, do note that some digital books may be auto deleted after 21 days (due to copyrights). Nevertheless, you can always download again 🙂 .
The KeyReader will be available in March at a retail price of S$499. At this moment, it seems that no one has done a review on it. So, there is no way to compare it with Amazon’s Kindle or Sony eReader.
BTW, for your information. iCell is one of the partners for Singapore Wireless@SG. So, in my opinion, we should be expecting a seamless integration of WiFi connectivity with KeyReader. Plus, as this is a Singapore product, you should be able to see some local content coming up (Straits Times?).
