Sitex 2009 is finally over. Over these 4 days, I have received calls, Tweets asking me what I will buy and which product is better. Truthfully speaking, for this Sitex 2009, I bought only a flash light (?) and nothing else. However, I was glad to catch up with Kenneth from iNO Mobile (The infamous OLD MAN handphone) who provided me with two new handsets for review. Is this Sitex 2009 up to expectation?
I like the slogan from Asus, “You Never Aske, You Never Know!”. This is quite true. Many times, there are secret or special prices if you ask them.
At this Sitex 2009, as expected, the price of 320 GB portable hard disks has dropped below the S$100 range. In fact, the price was still dropping as the show was coming to an end today. The 500 GB becomes the “standard” item in this show. A few vendors are selling 640 GB ones at around S$160 and above.
The next interesting trend that you see is GPS maps. They have the largest booths and are boasting about their SLA (Singapore Land Authority) Maps and updates. One of them even mentions Malsingmaps as another source of update.
Now, Navigational Maps are no longer the top view type of maps. They come with 3D buildings and some even has monthly subscription for traffic updates. One of the interesting booth is renting other country maps and this may be a trend for future.
I saw one of the interesting product is Eubiq. This product has been in the market for a few years and I have been interested in them since they launched. I did not see them on computer shows (or I did not try to find hard enough) but this time, I took some time to look at their products.
Eubiq has a variety of products (and expanding) over these years. The product is actually a track like system where you can connect a power source along the track. You are no longer bounded by the fixed power point. The longer the track, the more flexibility you can connect to a power point. This time, I saw a few new products like the USB charger with a magnet holder, a light source plug that provides a nice round blue ring.

I was hoping to see Creative’s latest Vado HD (3rd Gen) but could not find it. Instead, I saw a JVC model (PICSIO), it has HDMI output and able to take video with HD quality. The one sample I saw has a cracked lens and it looks so worn out that it puts me off.

At the Sony Ericsson Booth, Aino is still selling (although the Internet World is filled with information about some problems with it).
When I saw the Sony Ericsson’s signboard, it reminds me of my own Hopper ). And while walking round the halls, people were using loud hailer, microphone to shout out their latest offers. I read from Straits Times that this time round, Sitex 2009 will be clean. No more pirated software or hardware modification. In this show, it is quite evident. There are lesser shops that tout iPhone lookalike or selling MP3 players that looks like an iPod. Still, there are some around. However, I do see a shift in their products. They are selling Android phone
.
Afterthoughts
The walkways are wide. However, I cannot understand why they put a couple of plants in the middle of the walkways. Many peope are jammed due to this.
The Singapore Expo is seriously a venue that motorist dread. The carpark is a big headache. The show is much smaller this years and there are lesser (or none) “show girls” around promoting products. The Telcos are always having long queues and this time, I think Starhub managed to keep the queue from spilling into other booths.
What did I buy?
I bought an Energizer Hard Case Professional Series Flashlight (PROSW2A)
I also received 2 iNO Mobile phones from Kenneth of Foresight Technologies. Remember the old man handphone, CP09, that created quite a stir in June 2009 PC shows? They are back in this Sitex 2009 with more products. I will review them later.
Introducing CP10. The same but enhanced version of CP09. It is retailed at SGD118 during this Sitex 2009.
This is an interesting one. It is a Disney-themed Cartoon phone, D100 (D series). I think you will love it! It is targetted at students or children who wants to carry a phone. it is retailed at SGD168 during Sitex 2009. However, on the last day, the price is adjusted to SGD148.
It has a very nice Disney character at the back of the phone. (Mickey Mouse!)
What is interesting is that it is also coupled with Agis NAVFZone that allows parents or someone track the phone without GPS. A simple SMS will be able to locate the vincinity of the phone.

BTW, I have also pre-order my HTC HD2 with Starhub. According to HTC promoters at the booth, about 400 – 500 people pre-ordered. That is a lot, in my opinion, without a price tag on it .
Hope you enjoy my coverage and thoughts? If you have yours, just put a comment on this post .
