Sony has claimed that its latest PS3, which most people called it the PS3 Slim, is energy saving. No one actually tested it out except for CNET. They had help us realized that what Sony had mentioned is really true. PS3 Slim can really reduce the power consumption as compared to the original PS3.
CNET has also taken the trouble to match the PS3 Slim against a Samsung Blu-ray player (BD-P3600). It shows that although Sony has reduced the energy usage of the PS3 Slim as compared to the original, the player is still using higher energy level as compared to a standalone Blu-ray Disc player.
So, if you want to watch just Blu-ray movies, buy a standalone player. The result speaks for itself.
