This will be good news to Singapore NSmen who faced the problem of losing contact during ICT (In Camp Training). Once a year, Singaporean who has not finished their NS will need to go In-Camp. However, due to the tight protocol, laptops, PDAs or Smartphones are normally not allowed (Unless you have super good reasons and have gotten the necessary and tedious approval loop).
According to Straits Times, the Fifth Committee to Recognise the Contribution of Operationally Ready National Servicemen, or Record V had made many recommendations for NSmen. One of them is the staying connected while serving their In-Camp Training.
to allow NSmen in in-camp training (ICT) to bring in and use their laptops, PDAs and Blackberries during non-training hours
If this is approved, it will be good news for many of the NSmen. Currently, we are not allow to bring camera phones, laptops and many other electronics devices. It is frustrating to be disconnected from the outside world.
However, with this implemented, I guess Mindef (Ministry of Defence) will have a hard job to prevent leakage of information.
