Kaspersky Lab Announces its International Student Conference on Cybercrime

Singapore students and young scientists invited to register and submit their papers

Singapore – 29 July 2009 – Kaspersky Lab announces its ‘IT Security for the Next Generation’ student conference as part of the Kaspersky Academy education programme.

This conference brings together students, experts, scientists and researchers in a collaborative environment to present and discuss issues related to ?ybercrime.  It provides a platform for the next generation to be able to share their knowledge and experiences and to develop new ideas to improve the level of security in information technology.

To encourage students to actively participate in the programme, Kaspersky Lab has recently introduced the Asian Cup, in addition to existing regional cups i.e. the Russian Cup, CIS Cup and European Cup.

The introduction of the Asian Cup is expected to draw overwhelming interest from many countries across the region including Singapore.

Bachelor degree students from universities, institutes of higher education and graduate schools are welcome to apply.  Participation in the programme can either be individual or as a group.  Interested parties are required to register online via http://www.kaspersky.com.sg/it_security_conference_about.htm before 15 August 2009 to qualify their participation.

Programme committees including Kaspersky Lab CEO, Eugene Kaspersky, will evaluate the submissions, of which the three best research papers from Singapore will receive USD1500 cash each, from the Man himself, during his visit to Singapore in October 2009.  The winners automatically qualify for the next round to compete with other fellow Asians at the Asian Cup.

The place and date are yet to be determined.

“Professional scientific communities are especially relevant today and the company realises its duty to actively participate in the development of science and bring together talented young scientists from countries around the world,” says Gun Suk Ling, Director of Channel for Kaspersky Lab in Southeast Asia. “We hope that the ‘IT Security for the Next Generation’ conference will provide an opportunity for young specialists from all over the world to develop and exchange their ideas.”
