BAK2U Phoenix Anti-Theft Software Review – Test 1 – Video Within

When Paddy Tan from BAK2U.com asked for Blogger to review their Phoenix Software, I jumped at the chance. His team works fast. Immediately, I got a reply asking for the model of my laptop and etc. Within a week, I have downloaded the full version of Phoenix (Windows) software.

What is this Phoenix software? It is actually the anti-theft software for laptop and computer. As you may know, BAK2U is famous for their anti-theft software from phones, gadgets to laptops and computers.

How does it work? When a someone boot up  your computer without the Phoenix password, your laptop or computer will secretly send you an email (or twitter on your behalf) with the location (via Google Map) and etc of your laptop. You will then be able to locate through Google Map.

More on how it works after the break.

In order for the software to work, you will need to set it up.

Now, for the real thing!

My first test is very simple. I will not key in the password and let’s see how Phoenix Software works. Here is a short video of it.

The first test was a success! I received email from my laptop telling me where it is located. (I have to remove some information from below)

Latitude: 1.398470
Longitude: 103.907174
Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1.398470,103.907174

External IP Address: xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Country: Singapore
Region: Singapore
City: Singapore
Time Zone: +08:00

MAC Address: xxxxxxxxxxx
IPAddress: xxxxxxxxxx
Realtek RTL8102E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC – Packet Scheduler Miniport
Dhcp Address: xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Host Name: JoeTeh

However, at Twitter, I have a problem. It could not display the location. I have to check back with BAK2U team on this.

This test is proven that Phoenix Anti-Theft software can work if you are hook on to a network. However, it is too early to say since I have not fully tested other scenario.

For example, what if the person did not configure the laptop to its network. I have a few scenario in mind. Will try them out and let you know the answer shortly.

So, that is it for TEST 1, more to come. 🙂
