Just out from a joint Singtel, Google and HTC media event to launch the HTC Dream. There were many media people and I guess I am not the first to blog about it.
Watch out for the Newspaper tomorrow as I believe it will be splashed with a HTC Dream. More information and Singtel exclusive launch plan after the break.
Singtel, Google and HTC must have spend a lot of time planning this launch. Why it is so significant is because Singapore is the first Asian country to own HTC Dream or G1 (as it is called in the US).
With the launch, Singtel also introduces Android applications that is customised for Singapore customers. A few applications was demonstrated in the sneak preview and I must say that I am impressed with what I saw.
Below are some of the application that is already in the Android markets (and some of them coming soon).
One of them that I am very interested is the barcode reading software called SG SavvyShopper. It is a collaboration between ShengSiong and Singtel. Shopper can just use the camera to scan the barcode of a product and a comparative pricing will show. I will be doing a video on it later.
There are others like *MapPlus (get directions and local good lobang), Foyage (find restuarants and friends) and others.
Now, I guess the most important question is how much does the HTC Dream cost. Below are the answers.
I think the price is very competitive. For the highest plan, you can get the HTC Dream at S$38 (bundled with 3G Flexi Plus), the middle one will cost you S$138 (bundled with 3G Flexi Plan) to own the HTC Dream. And for the cheapest plan, you can get HTC Dream for S$238 (bundled with 3G Flexi Lite).
These are Singtel new price plan on 24 months contract.
Now, for special promotion, Singtel is going to give unlimited data download for 6 months when customers sign up between 21st and 22nd February 2009.
Customers who signed up after that will receive first month unlimited data download only.
You can have more information of the price plan with the link below

BTW, Singtel only bring in the black version of the Dream phone and they will see the demand before deciding on bringing in the white one.
And for your information, this HTC Dream is exclusive to Singtel. During the media Q&A, they did not reveal any plan to bring the phone to other Telcos. So, don’t wait anymore if you wanted the phone badly..
PS: I will post more pictures of the event launch later (Hologram?? Live demo and etc).
