Canon PhotoMarathon Singapore 2011 Results and Pictures

Just received the Official information on this year’s Canon PhotoMarathon 2011. It has smashed last year’s record with 2,078 participants. Participants were given three themes.  The first theme was announced at 9:00am, the second at 12:00noon and the third at 3:00pm.

Participants had three hours to frame, take and submit their photograph which must in some way relate to the theme. FYI, the themes were randomly drawn from a total of 8 words and announced at 9:00am, 12:00nn and 3:00pm.

The themes this year are: –

  • Theme 1: Eat
  • Theme 2: Circle
  • Theme 3: Imagine

The Judges

Benjamin Poon

Benjamin, the Managing Editor of Regent Media, oversees a team of dedicated editors and passionate writers for titles such as Golf Asia Magazine, Wheels Asia Magazine, and Football Weekly World CUP / EPL Guide.  Benjamin was one of the first few Singaporeans to be accredited by the Formula One governing body, the FIA, to photograph many of its races around the globe.

Francis Lee

Francis Lee, Photography-Trainer endorsed by The National Arts Council & People’s Association has more than 14 years of experience in teaching photography. He had also worked as a photographer in Singapore Press Holdings shooting for publications such as Streats etc. With an Engineering background, Francis understands the importance of mechanics to precise timing while photography directs him to the fine art of executing the Decisive moment.

Tim Chong

Tim is currently a senior sub-editor with Reuters’s Global Pictures Desk. He has covered several major events as a photographer and editor that includes the 2005 IMF/World Bank Meetings, APEC meetings in Singapore and Yokohama, the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne, the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong, and The Singapore F1 since 2008.

The judges’ decisions were final.

Judging Criteria

The competition was conducted in two categories: Open and Students.

Top three prizes will be awarded for each theme per Category.

A “Best of Show” Prize will be awarded in each Category.

The submission will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance to theme
  • Creativity in theme interpretation
  • Use of colours and light/shadows
  • Composition of photograph

All submitted photographs which must not be altered by any editing software, and must be taken on 10 September 2011 within the time period given for each theme.

Participants must submit their entries personally, and each participant is only allowed to submit one picture for each theme before its corresponding deadline.

Participants can use any brand of digital camera during the Canon PhotoMarathon Singapore 2011.
