I have people telling me that it is difficult or near impossible to get the picture clearly in the People Tab. Most of the picture are pixelated.
If you are one of them, I may know the problem.
I know people saying that their file size is already a few hundred KB (kilobytes) but the picture still sucks. I tried to do it but I did not find much problem.
I did many tests.
I found that: –
- For a picture that is taken at 72-pixel per inch, you will need a 300 pixels width picture to get the image right (the image will be about 40kb)
- For a picture that is taken at 300-pixel per inch, you will need a 3 cm (translated to about 383 pixels) width picture to get the image right (the image will be about 50kb) or you can stick to 300 pixels width.
Difficult to understand?
- It is the way the file is being compressed (to JPG).
- Some camera take picture at 72 pixels per inch. Some camera do it at 300 pixels per inch.
- What it means is that in an inch, there are 72 pixels only while the other one has 300 pixels. That means a 300 pixels per inch picture has more information per inch than a 72 pixels per inch picture.
- However as we control the pixels of the picture (using the width), I am confident that the picture will turn out alright.
Another “issue” that I found is that if we don’t change the picture correctly, you will still get pixelated image. Why?
Some people may have change their picture in the usual “All contacts” list. That means, you are NOT using the People Tab to change the picture. In this case, the same picture will appear pixelated. I guess the reason is because Windows Mobile actually shrink the pictures to their needs. Remember, TouchFlo3D was never part of Windows Mobile. Therefore, the picture shown will suffer pixelation.
To do it correctly, please follow these steps:
- Add your contact to the favourite list in the People Tab (of the TouchFlo3D)
- Click on the Menu and you will see the picture below.
- Click “Change Picture” option and change the picture accordingly.
- That’s it. You will get a Clear and Nice Picture.
