Razer and NUS are teaming up to build the future of AI-powered gaming

The gaming lifestyle brand and the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing have launched the Razer-NUS Joint AI Research Lab, a Singapore-based initiative focused on advancing “gaming intelligence” across hardware, software, and services.

The lab will explore areas such as digital humans and ambient intelligence, strengthening Razer’s broader AI ecosystem, which already includes AI Centers of Excellence in Singapore and France and nearly 100 researchers, data scientists, and engineers.

At the heart of the partnership is a new research domain called Gaming Artificial Narrow Intelligence, or GANI: AI designed specifically for interactive digital environments. Unlike general-purpose AI, GANI is meant to respond in real time to the fast, unpredictable nature of games—adapting difficulty, generating context-aware dialogue or objectives, and even powering smarter AI teammates that adjust to a player’s skill and playstyle. That work could also support Razer concepts such as Razer AVA, a personalised digital human companion, and Project Motoko, a wearable AI headset built around ambient, multimodal assistance.

Through the new lab, NUS will lead research and talent development, while Razer will bring industry expertise, real-world testing environments, and commercialization pathways. If successful, the collaboration could influence not only future games, but also real-time digital experiences in education, simulation, entertainment, and beyond.
