WhatsApp is rolling out gradually web calling from WhatsApp Web with new features. US robotic company, Satyress, is going to release a robot that looks demonic.
WhatsApp Web Calling
WhatsApp is rolling out web calling without the need to download any app. Here’s what’s new:
- Web Calling: Users can now make and receive one-to-one and group audio and video calls directly from WhatsApp Web, without downloading the desktop app. Calls support familiar features including screen sharing, reactions, a dedicated Calls tab, favourites and full call history, while remaining end-to-end encrypted with no time limits or additional cost.
- Call Transfer: Active group calls can now be transferred seamlessly between devices, allowing users to move a call from their phone or tablet to WhatsApp Web or Desktop (or vice versa) without hanging up.
- Waiting Room: A new waiting room feature gives hosts greater control over group calls. When creating a call link, users can enable “Require approval to join”, allowing participants to wait for admission before entering the call.
- QuickHD: Video calls now begin in high definition within the first few seconds, delivering a sharper video experience from the start of every conversation.
- Noise Suppression: New noise suppression technology helps reduce background noise during calls, making voices clearer even in busy environments. The feature can be turned on or off at any time through the in-call settings.
Satyress threehalves
I am not sure if this is a scene from a horror movie. A US robotic company, Satyress, introduces threehalves, which is a humanoid mounted on an animal-like body. Many are calling it Centaur (a legendary creature from Greek mythology). Its job is supposed to help human perform jobs that is deemed dangerous. However, the image that accompany it is a little discomforting.
Why would they think that an animal looking robot with a goat head holding a chainsaw is NOT going to make people feel uncomfortable.
Maybe the comforting part is that they have safety in mind. Again, the choice of the safety information is questionable. Let me know what you think.
