Review: HYDRAGUN for Your Sports Recovery

Thanks, HYDRAGUN, for sending me the HYDRAGUN for review. HYDRAGUN is a Singapore-designed sports recovery tool (or some might call it a percussive massage gun) for anyone. It is easy to use and well-designed.

I am especially pleased with the built quality. It feels premium the moment you open up the package.

And talking about package, check out these pictures.

The Packaging

It comes in a bright red packaging.

Check out this video where I unboxed the HYDRAGUN, put it to use and share my thoughts on it. Watch out for the bonus clip where I captured the percussive wave in super slow motion (7,680 fps).

Each HYDRAGUN comes in its own casing which is sturdy and fits the HYDRAGUN and accessories.

And inside it, you can see how well organized the massage gun and accessories are placed.

The Design

Here are the different views of the HYDRAGUN. It weighs around 1 kg and the body is made of aerospace-grade aluminum shell. I think the weight is just nice and the gun is well-balanced.

Love the details of the design. For example, the red ring on the back adds a little sparkle to the overall design, and the nanoscale sillicone wrapped handle provides a non-slip premium feel.

The control is very simple, and nicely designed. I can see that a lot of thoughts are placed into it in the designing phase.

Here is a close up of the control. It uses a single button to turn on the device and to change the speed (they called it Gear).

It has a very minimalist look.

At the bottom of the handle, you can see the power port where you can use the charger provided to charge it. It has an internal battery that can last up to 6 hours.

On the barrel, this is where the different heads can be inserted into.

This is a close up of the ball head. Notice that it has o-ring on the stem? It is to secure the head to the HYDRAGUN.

In total, there are 6 types of heads – Ball (x1), Fork (x1), Bullet (x1) and flat heads (x3).

Each of them has its usage. Here is a simple explanation on where you can use them.

The Usage

As I mentioned in the video, I went out to exercise so that I can sore my leg muscles and use the HYDRAGUN on them.

I tried to use it only on one of the legs so that I can feel the difference. Amazingly, the effect comes in almost immediately. I can feel the calve muscle that I use the HYDRAGUN to work on is less sore compared to the one that I did not use.

It is not magic but there is some scentific terms to it. Let me use the information provided by HYDRAGUN to explain.

What happens to your body when you use HYDRAGUN?

After an intense workout, especially one where you test your physical limits, your body takes on eccentric-exercise–induced muscle damage.1 A symptom of this muscle damage is the soreness that you feel 24 to 72 hours after the workout, otherwise known as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).

When you use HYDRAGUN after your workout, any time before or during DOMS, its high-torque motor delivers a powerful, pummelling action of 3200 RPM which increases blood flow in muscles and shortens DOMS. This increase in blood flow carries more oxygen and nutrients that are essential in repairing muscle fibers, thereby relieving the muscle pains and speeding up your muscle recovery.

To know if the area where the HYDRAGUN pounds on has better blood flowing, I think the easiest way (for me) is to feel the itchness in that area.

It is really immediate.

I have seen many cheap massage guns in the market and try on some. Those that I tried cannot be compared to HYDRAGUN in terms of built quality and noise level made by the motor.

The HYDRAGUN is very quiet, thanks to the selection of a good motor.

I guess many of us who are always sitting in front of the computer suffer from neck pain. This HYDRAGUN is the massage gun to go for. Use it near the neck area or the back to relieve the tension. Increase or decrease the speed depending on your liking.

However, for the back, you might need a partner to help you get to the area.

  • Speed: Up to 3200RPM
  • Six (6) swappable attachment heads (including 2 stainless steel)
  • Aerospace-grade aluminium casing
  • 30 – 50dB
  • Smart safety chip
  • Nano-scale silicone grip handle
  • Up to 6 hour battery life
  • 99° handle
  • Device weight: 2.3 lbs.

The quality and the low noise level of the HYDRAGUN is one of the reasons anyone should get the HYDRAGUN.

If you are a serious althelete, this recovery tool is definitely a must. If you are like me, use it as a massage gun for many parts of your body, and when you exercise, use it before or after the exercise to reduce the DOMS period.

At S$399, it is not cheap (especially if you compare with some of them in the market). However, the effect you are getting will definitely justify the price.
