Customers who sign up for this 5G Booster pack before the end of 2020 will get to enjoy up to 70% discount on the 5G Booster pack for six months, along with a year-long free subscription to VIU. Already, M1’s 5G NSA network is up and running in CBD, Orchard Road, Suntec City and Marina Bay. Over the next few months, the service will also be extended to additional parts of the city, covering key town centres across Singapore by the end of 2020. Mr Manjot Singh Mann, Chief Executive Officer, M1, said: “It is no secret that 5G will play a pivotal role in boosting Singapore’s digital economy. We have already seen glimpses of its potential through various enterprise and consumer 5G use cases and trials that we have embarked on so far. Now, we’re thrilled to bring our customers the very best of this game-changing technology to our customers.”
M1 is on track to start the rollout of its 5G Standalone (SA) network early next year, which will be the eventual nationwide standard to be adopted in Singapore by end-2022. This more secure and resilient 5G SA network will allow us to tap into the full potential of 5G technology and open up a better range of applications from cloud gaming to autonomous vehicles and remote surgery. M1 will in parallel continue to support its NSA network, ensuring that early adopters already on the NSA network can enjoy a seamless transition to SA whenever they are ready for the switch.
Leading up to the 5G network license award, M1 has demonstrated its 5G SA technological advancements in various real-world tests. At this year’s Chingay parade, M1 leveraged its 5G SA technology to livestream one of the key highlights of the parade through the lens of a camera drone. Leveraging M1’s 5G SA network, M1 also collaborated with Haidilao’s new flagship restaurant to turn it into a smart restaurant with enhanced customer experience.
Enterprises in Singapore have also been able to trial 5G through a range of partnerships with M1. A recent collaboration with the IMDA, MPA and Airbus has demonstrated the potential of 5G SA network in an active maritime drone estate to ensure unmanned aerial vehicles can operate safely and efficiently during all phases of their flights, including operations in the designated drone-fly zones. M1 has also partnered Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) for the test bedding of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) in Singapore’s water to establish reliable ship-to-shore communication links, and support mission-critical Internet-of-Things (IoT) maritime applications. Other collaborations include M1 partnering with Nanyang Technological University to help develop the first 5G SA cellular vehicle, as well as with Singapore University of Technology and Design to develop 5G advanced robotics technology
