OPPO R11, the World’s First Smartphone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660, is Coming to Singapore
June 20, Singapore— OPPO announced today that the OPPO R11, the world’s first smartphone equipped with Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 660 mobile platform, will be available in Singapore on June 22. Powered by the 14-bit premium Spectra 160 ISP image processing technology, the dual 20MP cameras, as well as exceptional portrait-taking functions and capabilities, the OPPO R11 will be a flagship model and bring enhanced clarity to every shot.
Customized Image Processing Technology by Qualcomm and OPPO enhances image clarity in OPPO R11.
OPPO’s R series of smartphones are known for their powerful cameras. The previous flagship model, the OPPO R9s, has become the best-selling Android smartphone and the third best-selling smartphone in the world, according to Strategy Analytics.
For the new R11 smartphones, OPPO and Qualcomm’s collaboration have achieved two major milestones in optimizing the flagship image signal processor on the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform, a huge breakthrough in smartphone photography.
Image signal processing (ISP) is a method used to convert an image into digital form while performing some operations on them, and is regarded as the “brain” when capturing photos or videos. For the first time, OPPO and Qualcomm have introduced the 14-bit premium Spectra 160 ISP on the Snapdragon 600 series, bringing extra power to advanced camera capabilities such as smooth optical zoom, fast-autofocus and superior low light photography to the OPPO R11.
The second major milestone is that also for the first time, HVX technology will be used on the Snapdragon 600 series, a co-processing unit that drives high-performance, low-power image processing. HVX (Hexagon Vector Extensions) supports the quicker, parallel processing of matrix image data with less power consumption, to achieve sharper and brighter effects for images captured.
The Snapdragon 660 mobile platform also has a 20 percent improved performance compared to the Snapdragon 653.
Clarity has arrived with the OPPO R11 – Unparalleled performance with Dual 20MP Cameras
In creating a brand-new user experience in portrait photography, OPPO made comprehensive hardware and software enhancements to the R11. The front-facing camera is upgraded to 20MP, while the rear-facing camera uses the 16MP wide-angle and 20MP long-focus dual camera unit.
This is not the first time OPPO has collaborated with other established technology suppliers to develop cutting-edge hardware for its smartphones. The IMX 398 sensor on the OPPO R9s released last year was jointly developed by OPPO and Sony. The fact that OPPO can join hands with major players such as Sony and Qualcomm demonstrates the company’s ability to merge the technologies of its upstream suppliers with its strength in imaging technologies.
The OPPO R11 has started selling in China since June 16th, and within 40 minutes, the online sales of R11 broke the first-day online and offline sales record of the R9s. OPPO expects the R11 to be equally successful in Singapore, exceeding customers’ expectations and bringing them joy, fun and one of the best clarity in smartphone photography the market can offer.
