While many brands are embracing the new Android Wear OS, and have churned out a couple of Android Wear Smart Watches, Samsung choose to be different. It introduces the elegant GALAXY Gear S smartwatch that runs on Tizen OS.
Before you dismiss it as yet another smart watch that links to a smartphone, I have to stop you. Unlike other smartwatches (except this PINE), this Samsung GALAXY Gear S is actually 3G enabled. It has a SIM Card slot on the back.
And as with other GALAXY Gear series of gadgets, Samsung continues to add the heart rate monitor into this GALAXY Gear S.
How about the specs?
As mentioned, Gear S is 3G enabled. It has a 2-inch AMOLED screen (360×480 display). It is powered by a dual-core 1GHz CPU with just a 300mAh battery that Samsung claims can keep the device running for up to two days. The OS is Tizen. It has a 4GB storage and 512MB RAM and is IP67 certified against dust and is water resistant. It also has heart rate monitor, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11a/b/n, GPS.
How big or small is this GALAXY Gear S?
The watch is actually quite big, especially if you have small wrist.
Expect to see this Samsung GALAXY Gear S at IFA 2014 next week. That is all at the moment.
