Thanks to Samsung, I was invited to the launch of GALAXY S4 in Singapore. It was held at Gardens by the Bay (Flower Field Hall at Flower Dome) Grand Ballroom. Samsung also took this opportunity to to let us have a sneak preview of the Orchard Fashion Runway on 4 May 2013, featuring the capsule collections of renowned fashion designers – Ashley Isham and Joe Chia.
As you may have know, I actually have had the opportunity to test out the Samsung GALAXY S4 in another media event recently. You can check them out here and here.
The event started with a short showcase of the capsule collection from fashion designers, Ashley Isham and Joe Chia.
It was followed by a speech from Mr. Harry Lee, Managing Director, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd, announcing the arrival of Samsung GALAXY S4 in Singapore. It will be available from 27th April 2013. Check out the Press Release here for more information and pricing.
Following that, Samsung product manager took the stage to give us a more in-depth look at the device, like the Air Gesture (see my hands on here), Group Play and Home Sync.
One of the most interesting feature of the GALAXY S4 is the Group Play. During the event, he did a demo by using one device to connect to other devices to play music. I think this is quite cool. You can see the Group Play demo in my video below.
Next, Mr. Winston Goh from Samsung took the stage. For those who are familiar, Mr.Winston used to be in charge of consumers. Now, he has a new portfolio in the Enterprise market.
One of the interesting feature of the GALAXY S4 for the enterprise is Samsung KNOX. It has most of the things for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) at work.
And according to Samsung, Sync_Shield is exclusive to Samsung in Singapore. Check out the features.
Finally, I think here is something that most people already forgotten. That is FindMyMobile site. If you have a Samsung phone, you can go to http://findmymobile.samsung.com to utilize the features (you need to login to your Samsung account first).
After the speech, we were given the opportunity to hands-on the devices. Check out this video. It has the highlights of the event like Group Play with music and game.
Before the end of the event, I was given a demo on the HomeSync. In my opinion, if you have Samsung products in your family, HomeSync may be the answer of a common storage (like a NAS). It comes with 1 TB of storage and runs on Android. Check out the specs here. As of this writing, there is no pricing details yet.
It has 2 USB port, 1 HMDI port and 1 audio out port. Here is a picture of using the Samsung GALAXY S4 to control HomeSync using Mirror Mode.
Here is another one using the Trackpad feature. You can also wave the phone in the air to move the cursor (like an Air Mouse).
That is all for the coverage of the Samsung GALAXY S4 launch event. Hope that you like it. Thank you Samsung for the invite.
