Apple says “Do Not Disturb” will work properly after 7th January

For those who are recently hit by the “Do Not Disturb” issue on iOS 6 (after the New Year), Apple has a solution for you. The solution is to wait until 7th January 2013. Maybe Apple thinks that this solution fits the “it just works” tagline for their products but I think this is really bad for Apple.

The problem started after New Year’s eve. The “Do Not Disturb” feature will turn on as per setting but will not turn off after that  (even though you have set the turn off timing). This, in my opinion, is a software bug. However, Apple did not issue any patch for it. Instead, in a support article, it mentions: –

Symptoms

After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.

Resolution

Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.

To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

Seriously, I cannot believe that they will put this as a resolution for this problem. Nevertheless, die-hard fans of Apple will think nothing about this small “glitch”.
