The IPHONE that is not from Apple

Brazil manufacturer IGB Electronica SA is going to launch its smartphone range with the same name as Apple. It will be called IPHONE (with a capital I) with its first model named “Neo One”.

If you are thinking this manufacturer is going to get into trouble with Apple over this name, you might be right (or wrong). Right because it is really misleading as the OS of this phone is Android. Wrong in the sense that they had filed for this name in year 2000, years ahead of Apple.

Nevertheless, with the success of Apple iPhone, I don’t think they will take it lying down and doing nothing about it. The IGB IPHONE “Neo One” cost 600 in Brazilian currency (approx. 290 USD). It is also said to be based on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and pack a 320 x 480 pixel resolution in its display. Therefore, the phone is obviously for the emerging market.
