Just completed my first half of the first day at CommunicAsia. This year is my first time attending the opening ceremony. The guest of honor is Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts.

Mobile technologies, satellite communications, cloud security and multi-screen broadcasting among highlights at leading ICT, digital multimedia and entertainment tradeshows
SINGAPORE, 19 June 2012 – Visitors to CommunicAsia2012, EnterpriseIT2012 and BroadcastAsia2012 will find themselves at the centre of the evolving Asian ICT, film, TV and digital multimedia industries. The region’s largest innovative industry tradeshows, opening today at the Marina Bay Sands and Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore, will see some 53,000 attendees from over 100 countries/regions arrive to attend the exhibitions, conferences and meetings from 19 to 22 June.
Industry professionals can look ahead to see some of the most innovative products, solutions and services from close to 2,000 exhibitors at the event; hear from over 350 experts; interact with masses of professionals from global ICT, film, TV and digital companies, government ministries, trade associations, promising SMEs, technology start-ups, educational institutions and research centres.

The largest satellite representation at an Asian technology trade event
This year the event will present the largest contingent of satellite companies seen in Asia. AsiaSat, Asia Broadcast Satellite, China Satcom, SES, Inmarsat, Intelsat and MEASAT are part of over 100 companies belonging to this cluster – a seven per cent increase this year as compared to the last edition.
Established industry players and up-and-coming innovative enterprises
Leading global industry players, such as CBOSS, Consistel, FiberHome, Huawei, Irdeto, Tata Communications and ZTE, are looking to seek out dynamic new industry deals at the event that could potentially change the pace of ICT in Asia and worldwide.
EnterpriseIT, held in conjunction with CommunicAsia, will showcase exhibitors comprising international IT systems providers and companies offering enterprise solutions ranging from cloud computing, data centre services, security and M2M, software to mobility solutions and video conferencing.
International group pavilions
There are three first time group participants out of a total of 21 international group pavilions. Two hail from Korea, led by Gyeonggi Technopark and Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Centre; one from Thailand led by the Department of International Trade Promotion, Software Park Thailand and Mobile Technology for Thailand, hosting a collection of mobile application developers.
Display of technologies reflects evolving ICT ecosystem
Huawei, Panasonic and Zensorium are just some of the companies that will launch new devices for consumers and enterprises. Taztag will be launching TazPad, the world’s first Android tablet with NFC & Zigbee technology, while Senko, in conjunction with Fibrepoint, will be showcasing the latest revolution in FTTH through the concept of a smart wired home.
Opportunities for local organisations to reach international audience
SMEs, start-ups, educational institutions and research centres will have the opportunity to showcase their latest innovations and creative ideas at the Discovery Lounge, located at level 5 of Marina Bay Sands. Each participant will have 15 minutes to pitch their idea to a targeted audience followed by a networking session.
The Innovation Showcase, also at level 5, is a platform for selected participating exhibitors to showcase their latest products and technologies. The Institute for Media Innovation of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will have their 3D Telepresence technology at the Innovation Showcase, while the InnoVillage at Singapore Polytechnic will present several innovative solutions based on the latest technologies such as cloud computing.
Industry demand for more hospitality suites
In response to industry demand, the space for hospitality suites and meeting rooms have increased by six per cent. CommScope, GlobeCast, NovelSat, and PCCW Global are some of the new takers for hospitality suites at CommunicAsia2012. Huawei, boasting a significant presence at CommunicAsia2012, is the event’s largest individual exhibitor, the Gold Sponsor, taking up hospitality suites as well as speaking at the Summit.
Thought-provoking space for new ideas and perspectives
The CommunicAsia2012 Summit will feature a record number of more than 200 expert speakers, including two visionary speakers – Ms. Aliza Knox, Managing Director of Commerce for Google Asia Pacific and Ambassador David A. Gross, Partner at Wiley Rein LLP – addressing a congregation of CEOs, government ministers and industry thought-leaders. The summit is expected to generate in-depth discussion on critical issues and share strategies and solutions over 170 sessions including dedicated tracks for mCommerce, mHealthcare and mSecurity.

Spotlight on the film, TV, digital media and entertainment industry
With the presence of industry giants ATG, EMC, Grass Valley, Hitachi, Harris, Panasonic, Robert Bosch and Sennheiser, Sony, amongst others, BroadcastAsia2012 will offer visitors the opportunity to witness forefront industry developments covering the entire value chain from content creation to delivery. There are 10 international group pavilions, from China, France, Germany, Italy (2), Korea, Singapore, Spain, UK, USA/Canada at BroadcastAsia2012 at Suntec.
Featuring technologies beyond broadcasting
With the media landscape constantly evolving and audiences demanding for content over more platforms other than the traditional broadcasting channels, BroadcastAsia2012 will be featuring these and more ground breaking technologies at a special Over-the-Top Technology (OTT) feature area.
At this area, trade attendees will get a first, exclusive look at the use of cloud-based technology and services to deliver seamless content to audiences on multiple platforms such as PCs and mobile devices. Showcase of latest broadcasting technologies and solutions
The popular Cinematography/Film/Production Zone is back for the second year with a 14 per cent increase in the number of exhibitors who will showcase technologies like 3D, HD, Animation, Visual Effects, Lighting, Truss Equipment, Film Production and Graphics as Production and Post-Production Software. Companies that will be launching new film production equipment include Blackmagic Design, Canon and Scubacam.
Exciting gathering of industry evangelists
The BroadcastAsia2012 International Conference brings together more than 100 industry leaders who will share key strategies for multi-screen broadcasting, dynamic interplay of broadcasting and broadband and the migration towards digital broadcasting. Two C-level keynote panel discussions will deliberate the impact of technology giants on traditional broadcasting and the increasingly significant role of social media in the broadcasting industry. Speakers include industry experts from companies such as Grass Valley, MediaCorp, NHK Japan Broadcasting Corporation, Pixelmetrix Corporation, Sony Corporation and Tata Communications.
The Creative Content Production Conference running from 20 – 21 June 2012 at BroadcastAsia2012, provides a one-stop platform for digital animators, CG artists, directors, scriptwriters and everyone else in the creative industry to discuss and debate an exciting line-up of topics ranging from content formats and mediums, to content distribution for multi-screen environments. Speakers include broadcasting industry experts from companies like Freemantle Productions, Lucasfilm Animation and Pinewood Iskander Malaysia.
