Sony Introduces Industry-Leading XQD™[1] Memory Cards

New memory card is capable of 1Gbps (125MB/s)[2] of ultra fast write speed

(SINGAPORE, 6 JANUARY 2012) Sony today announces the new XQD memory cards (QD-H32/H16), which allows for outstanding ultra high-speed data transfer up to 1Gbps (125MB/s, write and read). The XQD memory card H-series provides photo enthusiasts and professional photographers with more shooting possibilities as well as the ability to capture up to approximately 100 frames in RAW format[3] in continuous shooting mode when used with XQD compatible high-end DSLR.

Featuring an original and intelligent controller from Sony and adopting PCIe interface[4], the XQD memory card also possesses optimised flash memory to enable high-speed data processing, resulting in faster write speed and performance that cannot be achieved by conventional CompactFlash cards. With its ultra high write-speed performance, the XQD memory card can record approximately up to 100 frames in RAW format3 in continuous shooting mode when used with Nikon’s new DSLR “D4”.

The H-series also allows for reliable data recording using wear levelling technology to equalise the rewrite frequency on the card, as well as error correction code and data refresh function to minimise defect risks.

Also being launched by Sony is a USB 2.0/3.0 compatible XQD card reader (MRW-E80) that fully utilises the new memory card. Using the XQD High Speed Driver software that can be downloaded for free from the Sony website, users can quickly and easily transfer large quantities of very high capacity data to their PC. In addition, an XQD ExpressCard Adapter (QDA-EX1) will be available for use with computers with an ExpressCard™ 34 card slot.

To address additional requirements from the high-end digital imaging market, Sony has plans to enhance its XQD memory card offering in the future. For more information, please refer to this website: http://www.sony.net/Products/memorycard/en_us/xqd/index.html
