From the first indication that WhatsApp is coming to Windows Phone to the leaked link to the app, it has been a journey. If everything goes well, Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) will be getting WhatsApp really soon (in 24hrs).
Seriously, you can find other apps that can do the same. However, it is not about the app anymore. It is about connection. WhatsApp has a large number of users based across many platforms. Chances that if you are on WhatsApp, you can see a lot of your friends on it too.
WhatsApp is touted as a SMS substitute with the ability to send pictures and videos through data. It can access your contact information and identify friends who are already on WhatsApp. This make the app even more appealing.
In the early days, there are issues about stability or messages not sent across properly. Nowadays you don’t hear that anymore. And finally, after such a long wait, Windows Phone is finally getting the app.
It is not the fault of the awesome WhatsApp team. It is because Microsoft does not allow intrusion into the contact info on the phone. And WhatsApp needs that ability or permission to do so. With Mango version coming soon, it will be able to access them and get the app going. Looking forward to getting WhatsApp on my WP7 🙂 .
