MORE SINGAPORE NGOs TO GET SOFTWARE DONATIONS THROUGH MICROSOFT PARTNERSHIP WITH TECHSOUP ASIA
TechSoup Asia establishes presence in Singapore following successes in Australia and Hong Kong
SINGAPORE, 12 September 2011 — TechSoup Asia today has officially announced its launch in Singapore. TechSoup distributes the latest Microsoft, Symantec and SAP software donations to the nongovernmental organisation (NGO) sector in Singapore. TechSoup Asia is part of the TechSoup Global Network, through which corporate donors provide technology product donations to NGOs in 37 countries.
Through the programme, qualified Singapore-based nonprofit charitable organisations can request a wide range of software product donations. The products include operating system software, productivity software such as Microsoft Office, publishing software and server products.
Globally, Microsoft’s donations have benefitted over 40,000 NGOs totaling US$3.9 billion since its inception in 1998. As a reflection of Microsoft’s continued commitment to the NGO sector, the partnership with TechSoup Asia is an enhancement of Microsoft’s existing software donation programme in Singapore. It is aimed at reaching out to more NGOs in a more efficient manner. TechSoup Asia replaces the current Microsoft donations programme for small- to mid-sized nonprofit charitable organisations.
“We are really excited to be partnering with Microsoft to launch TechSoup Asia today. With this launch we will be bringing to life a nonprofit, collaborative venture to deliver technology and other capacity building resources to the NGO sector in Singapore in a more streamlined way than ever before”, said Mike Yeaton, Vice President of TechSoup Asia. “TechSoup Asia will provide access to donated and discounted technology products and we are delighted that right off the bat we have Microsoft, Symantec, SAP already lined up with their donation programmes. It’s not just about the donations though, TechSoup Asia will also provide online resources to support effective use of everything from routers to social media to face-to-face collaboration around using technology to address social challenges. We look forward to see what this partnership with Microsoft will bring to assist to serve the needs of NGOs in Singapore.”
Through TechSoup Asia, NGOs now have a one-stop center to request for technology products from Microsoft, Symantec and SAP. Additionally, NGOs will have access to a wider array of planning resources to better plan, choose and implement IT solutions. Participating NGOs will pay an administrative fee to cover the costs of the programme, which is a small percentage of the estimated retail price.
NGOs will work directly with TechSoup Asia to review and request the software they need, rather than contacting Microsoft. They will also have access to a wide array of technology planning resources through TechSoup Asia that provide specific guidance for best choosing, implementing, and using the Microsoft product donations.
“Making technology more accessible enables nonprofits to increase their productivity, reach more people and deliver new, improved services that directly help local communities,” said Jessica Tan, Managing Director of Microsoft Singapore. “Since the inception of Microsoft’s software donation programme in Singapore, we donated almost US$3.1 million to about 100 NGOs. Through this partnership with TechSoup, we want to help many more, and the changes we are announcing with TechSoup today are designed to make the programme more relevant and scalable to a larger number of nonprofits, which will in turn have a positive impact in the local community. We are very excited to see the launch of TechSoup Asia in Singapore. At Microsoft, we are committed to technology capacity building for the nonprofit sector and believe that TechSoup Asia will provide local organisations with a valuable service”.
