Singapore, 2 August 2011 –– Newstead Technologies, a major consumer electronics retailer in Singapore, today announced that they have successfully raised $50,000 for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF). The home-grown retailer organised a two-week campaign in May 2011 which included the inaugural Bid to Give charity auction, roadshow and promotions. Mindy Tan, Managing Director of Newstead Technologies presented a cheque of $50,000 to Irene Ngoo, Organising Vice-Chairman, SPMF at Newstead Technologies. The funds raised will go towards benefitting more than 11,000 needy students with their school expenses this year.
The campaign was supported by key sponsor, Microsoft Singapore, leading notebook makers and partners of Newstead Technologies. Together, the partners donated 27 brand new notebooks for the first-ever multi-brand notebook auction. With bids starting at $199, the 2-day charity auction recorded a highest bid of $1,749 for a single notebook and raised almost $20,000 for SPMF. Newstead Technologies also donated $10 for every notebook sold and another $5 for every Microsoft Office 2010 purchased during the two-week campaign. To top it off, Newstead Technologies matched dollar-for-dollar for all funds raised during the campaign and brought the total amount raised to $50,000.
“We are heartened that our partners and Singaporeans had come forward to pledge their support for the charity drive. We have raised more than we had expected and seeing all the enthusiasm for the cause, we have decided to match the contributions dollar-for-dollar,” said Mindy. “We will continue to leverage our partnerships and come out with creative ways to give back to society,” Mindy added.
