Malaysia Twitterer Ordered to Tweet 100 Apologies in Defamation Case

A Malayisan social activist tweeted about poor treatment of his pregnant friend by employers of a magazine run by BluInc Media. He received a lawyer letter subsequently and was taken to task to complete the unusual task of apologizing over the same media that he use to accuse the firm.

This is super unusual and I wonder if other countries will adopt such punishment for people who abuse the power of Social Media.

The BluInc  initial charge is for him to apologize in major newspapers and also to compensate in unspecified amount. There is no word of who finally decide on this term of using Twitter to apologize.

Seriously, if this can work, I am sure you will see more of such “punishment” in future. However, for this case, it seems that he attracted more media attention and sympathy than hatred.

In fact, if I am not wrong, his followers has increased since the incident.
