If you have not noticed, IT Show 2011 is over and according to the news, over S$72 million worth of products had been transacted over the 4 days period. So, what have you bought?
Many people always think that I bought many things during PC shows or IT shows. However, just to make it clear, I do not. Many people buy things on impulse. For myself, I tend to control my impulse part (of course, there are times when this fails too!).
The first booth that captures my attention is the booth by BOIA. They brought in brands like Veho, Balanzza and etc. I saw three products that are of interest. One is a microscope that can be linked to the PC to capture video or images.
On close look, it is actually a webcam with microscope. The concept is simple, it has a long scope with light that you can manually adjust the focus. There are only 2 focal point at 20x and 400x. Here is the results at 400x on a Singapore $2 note.
The result (capture from the screen, so not very clear).
It comes with software for the screen capture. I find that it is useful for engineering firms or schools to provide a useful and cheap solutions to view things in macro. The cost of it is $143 after discount.
Next product is the Veho. If you have been looking at gadgets, the name will be familiar to you. The product that caught my attention is the Veho Muvi HD10. It can capture video at Full HD (1080p) and you can use MicroSD card up to 32GB.
One good thing about it is that it has a LCD screen.
It is actually not small but it does come with helmet mount and other mounts that you can use. After going through the specs and talking to the promoter, I realize that it cannot auto-overwrite the card once it is used up. You will need to manually format it. This is a little disappointing as it has accessories like car mount to capture HD quality video and functions like noise detection for automatic recording. It has a special price of S$314 during the show.
Finally, the last product from this booth is the Veho MiMi Wireless Keyboard Conqueror.
It connects via wireless 2.4Ghz (although based on the explanation, you will still need to use the dongle) and uses accelerometer technology to move the mouse. It has joystick and buttons for gameplay. I am not a gamer, so I cannot judge if this is good enough for PC games, or if it has a fast reaction to the button press. Based on the brochure, it cost S$179.
Another booth that I stopped for a longer period of time is eGear. It has a range of battery extender for various types of phone. I bought the eGear iWalk 1000.
Although I already have one battery pack (5400mAh), I think this is still more portable. It has a nice design too. The battery indication is beneath the mirror surface.
It supports 2 types of connector, Mini-USB and Micro-USB. You CANNOT use both at the same time.
The connector heads are rotatable. Here is one picture of it when I connect to my LG Optimus 7.
It cost S$29 (usual price is S$44). Too bad, it does not have a USB port.
If you have read this blog, you would have seen my next recommendation. It is the SteadyTracker FotoCrane for photographers and videographers. It is quite useful for unique angles in shooting.

Finally, I guess many ventured into the crowded IT Show to buy cards like SD, MicroSD and Flash memory. Over the years, the price has dropped significantly. Here are some pictures with pricing of them (not comprehensive though). Click on the pictures to view a larger image.
The standard portable drive (2.5-inch) is already 1 TB. So, if you are buying during the next IT or PC show, remember to buy 1 TB and above.
I also believe NAS (wireless) will become popular and for NAS, 2 TB and above seems normal nowadays. And another revival is the HomePlug. I bought mine years ago and did not use them as their speed is slow. Now, it seems that the speed can reach up to 1000Mbps and some has integrated a Wireless-N extender too (D-Link DHP-W306AV).
Next, I think 3D TV and Internet TV will invade the market soon. With so many players selling 40-inch LCD or LED TVs below the S$1000 range, I think they are clearing stock for more advance TV.
So, that is it! I did not spend much time on individual booth. Hope to do it next time to have a more time. What have you bought? 🙂
