Got this news release from Kaspersky. This is my first time hearing about this thing on Package Software. Basically, packaged software is ready-to-use software available via retail, lease or another service, regardless of its physical medium, and is distinguished from customized and preinstalled software. Kaspersky has made it to the top 100 list.
Kaspersky Lab ranked among the world’s Top 100 packaged software vendors by IDC
Singapore, 12 August, 2010: Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that global market intelligence provider IDC has ranked the company among the Top 100 Packaged Software Vendors worldwide.
Each year, IDC surveys the leading vendors of packaged software to determine their individual proportion of market share by revenue. The results of the survey are published under the title “Worldwide Packaged Software Revenue by Top 100 Vendors”. The results of the 2009 survey and the forecast for the next five years have been published in the “Worldwide Software 2010–2014 Forecast Summary”. Kaspersky Lab ranks 78th on the list and is the only Russian company to be included in the rating.
According to IDC terminology, packaged software is ready-to-use software available via retail, lease or another service, regardless of its physical medium, and is distinguished from customized and preinstalled software. The study analyzed revenues earned by software vendors from sales of packaged software throughout the period 2007–2009 and examined how the revenues for 2009 changed compared to the previous year. Kaspersky Lab demonstrated an annual growth rate of over 42%. The index is several times higher than the average growth rate for vendors.
Kaspersky Lab has also made it into IDC’s Top 50 rating for “Worldwide System Infrastructure Software Revenue”. This rating ranks the major manufacturers of system infrastructure software according to their revenues for 2009. Kaspersky Lab is ranked 22nd on the list. The company demonstrated the third largest annual growth figures of all of the companies on the list.
IDC’s studies analyzed information on more than 1,000 major global software manufacturers.
