Flip Video has finally reached Singapore. The media launch was actually in the afternoon and the evening event is more for bloggers. The event was held at Queen & Mangosteen at Vivocity. They have actually set up an event area in Vivocity where you could walk away with the Flip MinoHD camcorder. More about that later.
Actually, Flip Video Camcorder has been around for quite some time. It is only now that Cisco brought them in. I was quite surprised that Cisco has bought over Flip.
We were taken to a tour on the booth. This booth will only be opened to the public on 16th July.
If you happen to be in Vivocity these few days, remember to check out the Cisco Flip Video booth. There are prizes to be won and you can even rent the Flip MinoHD for an hour (free).
According to Cisco, one of the strong points about Flip is their software. The software is already in the Flip Video unit. When you plug in the unit to a computer (via USB), it will automatically run the software. Here are some shots of the software.
Once it is running, you can easily use it to share video, upload to website and etc. Very easy. As we are a curious bunch, we decided to see what is IN the unit itself. Here is a screenshot of what folders are already inside the Flip Video unit.
After talking to Cisco for a while, I realized that Cisco is currently providing unlimited uploads to their server. That means, if you want to share video with your friend, you can upload to Cisco server, use the software to email to your friend the link and your friend will be able to view the video.
It is like a private Youtube channel 🙂 .
BTW, there are two models currently on sales. Both are called MinoHD. One has only 1 hour of video recording time and the other with 2 hours of video recording time. The lowlight feature is quite impressive. I can take video at low light situation. However, just a note. The MinoHD is a fixed lens with no Macro function. For most people, these should not be a problem.
Here is one happy gal using the MinoHD.
The MinoHD is a very easy to use camcorder that shoot HD (720p) quality video. Once you power on, press the RED button and it will start recording. Press it again to stop. That is it! Not much settings to play with (which is good for some people).
Here is another shot of bloggers.
We had our dinner and finally, we reached the finale. Remember the contest I was talking about. We have the chance to play it. Guess what we are doing.
5 real MinoHD are placed together with dummy units. Each of us has the chance to pick one. Not easy. Everyone looks the same.
Here is one winner. Look how many she is.
And how stressful it is to choose a unit. Haha.
We had fun trying to guess the correct units. Overall, the event went on well and actually, it was supposed to end at 9pm. However, we chose to sit around and chat and ended up leaving the place after 11pm.
In my opinion, the Flip Video (MinoHD) is a handy gadget for some quick video. With it size, you can easily keep it in your pocket or handbags. The lowlight capability is a plus point. I have seen some other brands that really cannot perform well under lowlight. The Flip integrates closely with Youtube, Facebook and MySpace. So if you want to do an update to these sites, it is very easy. Here is a short video on the look of the Flip MinoHD.
