McAfee to Reimburse Repairs for DAT Update 5958 Incident

Remember the McAfee DAT Update 5958 incident. It had affected thousands and thousands of computer worldwide. Now, they are cleaning up their act (which I think is good) by offering “reasonable expenses” reimbursement.

According to McAfee website, they will dispatch technician to “solve” your computer issue if you have not done it by now. And as mentioned, they will offer some reimbursement on repairs.

For impacted home or home office customers who have incurred costs to repair PCs as a result of the security update issue, McAfee will reimburse reasonable expenses, such as a visit to a local tech support specialist.

And if you can still trust McAfee, they have offered a two years extension to existing subscription for those seriously affected. Not sure how they define it.

Additionally, because we value our loyal customers, home or home office users whose PCs were rendered inoperable or severely impaired as a result of the security update will receive a free two-year extension of their current McAfee subscription product at no charge. This extension will appear in the “My Account” section of the McAfee Web site within the next 30 days.

I think it will take a long time for McAfee to restore confidence in consumers and corporate.
