If you have notice, Augmented Reality is here to stay. Most of the apps now are social media, like finding landmarks, playing games and etc. In future, I am sure that it will used in a more effective ways like solving problems. For example, wouldn’t it be great that when you wear an augmented reality eyepiece, instructions will appear to teach you the steps to do something technical? It should not be far away now.
In the latest development, US Marines uses a new system, ARMAR (Augmented Reality for Maintenace and Repair) developed at Columbia University’s Computer Graphics and User Interface Lab, to assist them to make repair on an armored turret.
It shows that with graphical overlay and instructions via Android devices (I saw a G1 Dream on their wrist 🙂 ), they are able to identify items and make the necessary repair.
The only worry I foresee on this system is moving parts. Some may be too engrossed on the instructions to take care or beware of moving parts. What is your opinion?
